Am typing this on son's laptop. Main computer crashed when hubby tried to download AOL 9.0. Despite expert help, unable to restore. Looks like new computer and high speed internet access is in our near future. Will be changing e-mail addy soon too (switching carriers).

Since this computer is temporarily connected to our main phone line, I cannot be on long.

We survived the hurricanes, though the anticipation and preparation are VERY nerve wracking. Some minor tree damage only from the last one.

My mom (86) who lives with us has some serious med. problems.

All combined...I'm sorta at my stress threshold right now...that's why I've been off the boards for awhile.

I do want you all to know, I think of you often and wish you all a safe journey back to health.

Why not get an email address that you can keep though changes in whatever ISP you have?

I'm on my 3rd ISP in the past 5 years and yet my addy is always the same thus causing me no problems having to tell everyone the new one.

Two that come to mind are Yahoo and Hotmail.

I have a Yahoo address and have kept it throughout all my ISP changes.

Rosemary

PS, this is just a suggestion as I know that there are people out there that actually believe that their email addy has to be tied to the ISP that they are using...and, this is just not true.

Marine,

Were you able to get your info off your hard drive? My husband knows how to get info off of "crashed" drives and save it to a good computer.

I know you have so much research, it would be ashamed if it was lost.

Please let me know if we can help you.

Fortunately about a month ago, I had a friend's son (computer guru) save all my files to zip disk (antiquated). Thank God! I have hundreds of files. They will be transferred to a CD disk when the new computer is up and running...with all sorts of virus protection and spyware installed.

Told to run spyware every week.

Guy at check out at Best Buy built his own Beta computer (expeimental computer) and also crashed with 9.0. Uses too much of the operating file space.

Apparently USA today had front page article yesterday about yet another virus.

Keep your virus programs updated! To eliminate all the junk mail...consider spyware.

....Get a Mac...one of the new ones that uses the UNIX based operating system.

2. DON'T use AOL it sucks.

MY opinion only, but I NEVER crash and viruses just show up as a page of computer code that doesn't do anything but sit there.

Ya know I installed AOL 9.0 on my new laptop (got it in March) installed AOL when I went on vaccation to MO and didn't have high speed.

Within a week my computer crashed.

Dell did send me a new hard drive but at the time we didn't put 2 n 2 together, if you know what I mean because I was home at that time and didn't reinstall AOL.

hhummmm something to think about.

Marine, Thank God you saved all your info. all your time and research is to important to lose.
