I see things sometimes that are not really there. Only at a glance. Mostly at night when I am driving or riding. But I have seen things during the day too like out of the corner of my eye. or objects can appear to be something that they are not at a glance. It startles me sometimes especially at night when I am driving.
Is this herxing or infection or am I just crazy.
Oh your probably wondering what I see. Not big scary monsters. Siloettes, shodows, of like animals or people, common things.
Most of the time they appear to be in motion but sometimes they are still but it is only for a momment. A glance.
i do wear bifocal's..80% dark during the day and 60% dark at night.i thought maybe it could be a reflection on my glasses..but not at night.
it's da' boogie man!!!!lol...your not crazy,,gary

I don't think (not a doctor, though) that this is anything too worry too much about.
I did that even before I was sick.
There was this one spot I used to drive by when I was in high school that I would swear there was a person standing by the side of the road every night.
I finally drove by really slow one day and realized that there was a bush of somesort there in that looked kind of like a person and the way the sign post was angled next to it looked like the bill of a baseball cap.
Peripherally, it looked like someone standing on the side of the road in a baseball cap at night.
So, anyway, it can happen even when you're not sick . . .
I try not to drive unless I absolutly have to. Especially at night. I can hardly see a thing at night anymore. Especially with all the head lights and street lights. They really mess my vision up. When I am on my abx's every 2 days I have to stop driving completely because I am impared so badly. but when I pull back to every three days and start to feel better I do drive a little more to the store down the road or around the house. We live in the country.
I try not to drive in town at all. It really turns my anxiety level way up and I know I am not well enouph for all that right now.
slcd, There is a garbage can beside the road by my road that used to mistake for a pedestrian. It used to freak me out all the time. now I have learned to prepare myself for that one.
Light reflections on windshield smears can appear to be moving objects at a glance. it is like my mind plays tricks on me and it has made me slam on breaks before. I have learned not to respond to then but then I wonder if I will be less likely to respond to something real because of it.
You want to make sure it isnt the start of retinal detatchment.

It's one of my least favorite things, but I was actually relieved to find out it was tied to Lyme - had my eyes checked by an opthoneurologist, had a visual evoked potential done...and nothing really out of the ordinary (although I am apparently less able to differentiate between colors than I used to be!)
Night driving is scary...I don't ever go much farther than I need to, and when in doubt, I aim for the middle of the 8 sets of brake lights I see in front of me!
But after i had a car accident in august of 03 (some guy used me as his breaks on the highway!), I started seeing all kinds of stuff - there was a dog that moved into my basement.
Funny cause only I could see him, and he didnt make any noise!! Once in a while I'd see other stuff - supposedly it was from the concussion/lyme together. Who knows - just glad that left.
Now i just see all kinds of shapes and spots or sometimes nothing at all.
good luck.
You all make me feel much better. I have seen an opthomolagist and a specialist from another county. although I didn't mention my seeing things, I was evaluated for my blured vision, poor perception, eye spasms, and the fact that my 20/20 vision had fallen to 20/25 in my left eye and 20/40 in my rt. It has gotten worse since then.
They said it had to be neurologic because they could fin no abnormalities. They also told me that glases would probably not correct it.
So that was what I was left with. Some days I wonder if I am going blind. But the neurologic thing makes since because it comes and goes. some days my eyes seem ok but some days they go completely haywire.
Thanks again for the info. I will have to reboot to read your link Kara. My computer is acting ugly today.
