I'm wondering why my llmd doesn't want to give me painkillers. I'm in a lot of pain, and vicodin helps me feel so much better.
any ideas? should I go to another (non llmd) doctor and get them prescribed for my back pain?
thanks

Well, they can be addictive...but I've been in horrible pain from Lyme plenty of years. I wouldn't have made it without painkillers. Your llmd needs to understand that being in pain is not good for the body. [nor the soul!]
It puts you under more stress, your BP can go up, all kinds of stuff can go into the negative column....Research it and show him the research!
Maybe you'll have to go to a pain management clinic.

Hey jonathann......why don't you repost this over in Medical? Then you'll get more responses.

You have a right to pain relief. Although some pain meds are addictive, they are rarely so when used correctly to treat pain. And studies have shown pain patients usually use less pain medication then they are prescribed anyway.
I would find a doctor who is willing to treat your pain. Ideally you will find a pain specialist who understands Lyme. From my experience, that's hard. I work with a pain specialist who thinks I've got fibromyalgia and will have it for the rest of my life. But I still got a good pain management plan from him.

My sister and I both have Lyme and while I suffer from extreme fatigue as my main symptom my sister has extreme headaches as well as body/joint pain.
She has chosen to go to a pain management specialist to try to get things under control. She doesn't like being on a lot of pain meds but she can't function without them.
I'd suggest that you show your LLMD research about pain control and if he or she still won't write a script for you then find another doctor that will.
You have a right to pain control, that may not mean no pain but at leas tto the point where you can function.
