I want to get my spirit and vitality back, and I believe there are definately places out there for less than 12k a week.
There is a Romanian Orthodox convent in PA (there are others but this one I know more about). Their calling is to hospitality.
Unlike in the Roman Catholic Church, all Orthodox nuns and monks belong to the Order of St. Basil. Now they dont dress like Roman Catholic nuns.
They do not charge anything. You can make a donation of whatever you wish.
It is located on 100 acres of meadow and woods and was founded by a Romanian Princess who was visiting the US.
You can either join the nuns for worship...or not.
There is a library, chapel, and hospitality room.
You would stay in one of the guesthouses (the nuns have their own facility).
There is a gazebo for dining outdoors.
I know someone who used to go there. Eventually she because a nun (but most women dont).
*Let them know you are not Orthodox(I am making an assumption)--
just so they are aware of your background.
They wont be mean to you because of it. Most of them are converts and all of them speak English.

And how Orthodox nuns dress.
I was laughing while reading it, then thought maybe she wasn't kidding....
help...a spiritual retreat is one thing...not that I would ever judge or anything...just not sure how to respond here.

In the middle ages it was very common for people to go to monastic communities for vacations.
It is the perfect place to get away from things.

Only the nuns dress like nuns.
You just wear everyday clothes--now their are some restrictions. You probably cant wear shorts.

I have been thinking abt trying to get out there myself.... it's been a while, and I need a break!
Their fees are very resonable and they have been know to offer reduced rates to those in need.
Good luck!
They have nighttime activities like concerts. The grounds are awesome. Like Annie said it is a very accepting place, if you want to do activities, fine if you want to read or relax that is fine too.
No tvs, no radios, no smoking, limited cell phone use(only in phone booths and outside).
Awesome food. You won't want to go home!
