Has anyone else noticed this new tv trend of medical shows trying to diagnose the mystery illness? I've become totally fascinated by them, probably because I actually know what they are talking about now.

If you haven't seen it, I recommend checking out "House" on Fox, Tuesdays at 9pm. It's about a completely unfeeling doctor who always thinks out of the box.

Quote from tonight's show when one doctor said the test for an illness was negative, another doctor responded "Screw the test."

I love the show "house". They have mentioned Lyme a couple of times as a possible disease.

I'm also facinated because of all the research I've done on lyme, I actually know what he's talking about.

I also watch West Wing, the prez has MS. I thought a good ending for the season is that he doesn't have MS, but Lyme. It would do the lyme community good.

I love "House"! Since I'm being seen by a doc at a major university, who displays little emotion...that show hits close to home. Also Dr. House is a bit like me, humor wise.

I'm hooked on House too, but I wanted to scream in the one episode I caught where he was using lyme in the differential dx and said that it couldn't be lyme because the person didn't have a rash and flulike symptoms.

Neither did a lot of us.....

Remember the episode with the kid who got a scratch when they first started to examining him I said to my wife lyme couple seconds later I said nope rabies. She hates when I do that hahahaha

I saw it the other night for the first time, and liked it. I thought you might be interested in their website, which includes a message board:

I think it's great...always trying to guess what the patient has...always wrong, but I keep guessing.

Another show I like on Friday nights is "Medical Investigation". It's on the same order...weird diseases. They call this group of experts when they can't figure out what else to do!

I like Medical Investigation too. These shows are like watching my life, although I've luckily never been near the severity of the patients they show.

I actually am nervous about either show ever touching Lyme. These shows usually like to have a quick recovery for patients that can recover. You can bet if a patient has Lyme, they will be recovered by the end of the episode.

It would be cool if we could get a show like House to have a patient that is a returning patient who was diagnosed and treated for Lyme, but still symptomatic and then they discover the patient still has Lyme and needs longer treatment.

Yes, Aniek, I agree. Any episode with chronic Lyme would be a good lesson for all doctors who are nonbelievers.

But...I still wish I was smart enough to guess some of the diagnoses on these series!!! Fun to try.

Did you ever see the main actor when he was in the PBS series, the P.D.Wodehouse Jeeves stories?

He was great in that,so hilarious, different character now for sure.

What is it that ails him?Why does he have to pop so many pain meds?I missed the first few and just watched it this week.

Yeap,a lyme scenario would be the ticket,if done properly,yes a relapse,or NO rash or a 10 day abx.treatment.

We could really write an award worthy script.

I love this show too...

But I am scared the AMA will try to can it.
Because I think it shows the reality of how much info dr.s don't know compared to how much knowledge we are supposed to think they know...

But Dr. House is great! Where can I find one just like him???

Yes, we try to watch House every week.

But don't know what's wrong with the Doc's leg either?

My husband also recognized him from P.G. Wodehouse's JEEVES & WOOSTER. We have volume II DVD.

If you get a chance to see it, it's funny. Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) looks about 20 years younger with a British accent. It's quite a shock from seeing him on House.

I don't know what's wrong with his leg that causes pain.

Boston Legal is one right now, and they had a person who wanted to be frozen because he was diagnosed with ALS. Yes, many many problems with the story line, but...

It seems like neurological disorders and infections are getting more coverage on t.v.
