my 28 year old nephew has lyme like symptoms(I have had it twice and my husband once so I believe I recognize it) HE works outside and is always removing ticks from himself.
HE was refused a blood test at a walk in clinc (he has no insurance) as the doctor said it was just muscle aches due to his line of work - landscaping (which he has done for years!!) what can he do

Hello Daisyyd,

Welcome to LymeNet!

I too am in the Landscape business, and also have pulled countless ticks off of myself through the years. I suppose it is one of the hazards of the profession

Your nephew is running into the same problems that most of us have dealt with...a complete lack of understanding concerning Tick Borne diseases.

He really needs to go to a qualified Lyme Literate Medical Doctor (LLMD) for a complete evaluation ASAP.

You can post in the ``seeking a doctor'' section with your location and an email contact, and someone will get back to you with referrals.

Time is of the essence...

Suggest to him that he continues to see doctors until he finds one who knows his a** from a hole in the ground.

Time is of the essence.

He should spray his footwear and clothing with permethrin.

Ask him if he can afford to be permanently disabled....because he will be if this continues.

Tell him to get tested now. The 44-year old landscaper in Maryland just died. He had been in a wheel chair for a year and a half, got a 107.6 temperature and died. Do not let this happen again. It was lyme.

Borrow the money or get help from the business owner. Take out a loan, anything.

Also, a man testified in the MD Senate on March 10, 2005 where the brother did the talking for him. He had been a successful landscaper and well off. He was first diagnosed with ALS. The brother looked like he had cerebral palsy and sat there and cried the whole time.

It was so sad! Don't let this happen again. May the LDA can help him and give him some funds.
