Hi. Refresher...my 8 year old son recently had a positive test result for lyme. He was bit and treated two years ago, was treated and then he was fine. This winter he had a relapse.
He's physically doing very well. So, we're going with cats claw, ultra flora and artemisinin. Then, in six weeks he will go on a strong, long-term dose of antibiotics. Does this sound familiar and adequate?
Also, he tested negative for any co-infections. Could he develop them at a later date? Excuse me if that's an ignorant question. We have received such invaluable help from this website. Everyone here may very well have changed the course of our sons life. Thanks.

mik,

I bumped this last night before I fell into bed; but why is there a 6 week wait before starting abx?

I've tested negative for lyme and co-infections many times. You say physically well... and mentally?

I think that if he is treated directly for textbook (is there one?) lyme and does not get well, an antibiotic combo as considered by you and your son's llmd should become an option.

How long was his treatment 2 yrs ago and what antibiotic and dosage?

Hi Mik,

To start... how long was he on abx to begin with? If the treatment was inadequate when he first was bit, chances are the Lyme & co-infections were not killed off. They can going into remission for a time. You can actually "feel" better while the bacteria is still growing away. I know this because it happened to me.

To anwser your question -- "Could he develop them at a later date?" Probably not. He probably has had them the whole time.

The tests for co-infections are not accurate either. He may get a negitive test but still have had them.

My suggestion.. (I am not a Dr.) If he is starting to go down hill again then put him back on abx for as long as it takes for him to be symptom free.

As far as I know -- cats claw does not break the blood brain barrior. Since he is only 8, Zithromax or Amoxy would probably be the better choice.

I wish you all the best,
Lisi

Ps. I know how painful it is to have a sick child, myself and my 3 sons have Lyme too.
