As you can see, I am a "newbie" yup,,, I found out about 3 months ago that i have lyme... My Dr. thought it was a spider bite...It was only by my suggestion that he ran a lyme test.
First a Positive, [Frown] then a negative. [Smile] After treatment, and three weeks later I got tested again, ya know the worse 2 outa 3 thing. Well guess what, a week after that... another rash...
and more meds... How long can I expect this to go on? I am 42, and a mother of a 8 & 9 year old... Does this thing never die or what? [confused]

Welcome, and sorry you had to join all of us.

My suggestion is to get a LLMD (lyme literate medical doctor) immediately!

How long will you be on meds? It really depends on how long you were sick before getting treatment. But the best thing is to be on meds until ALL of the symptoms are completely GONE.

I would stay on for 6 months to a year if I were you. Just to be safe.

And if you relapse go back on abx again.

You also, while being on abx have to control your yeast. Low carb diet and no sugar, white flour and bread.

These are some newbie links for you to read. An Enormous amount of info here!

As Lisi said it depends on how long you have had it .. as some have had it and arent aware they have it untill they really begin to get sick. early detection and even more recently they are finding that even then it is not "cured" as they think please read this: It is not specific to Lyme but these two doctors are finding a culture will prove that people still show evidence of B. burgdorferi spirochetes in their blood even after they have been "adequately treated" and show no more symptoms! They also are finding it may help then identify a method to culture HIV and syphilis in order to help resolve some of the mystery behind HIV, Syphilis and Lupus... http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/jones.html
I find the more and more that I read the tie in's are beginning to venture to a freaky level..
hope you find something interesting and helpful in this reading..

My two cents:

Get to a Lyme Literate Medical Doctor PRONTO.

You don't need to deal with an MD in Massachusetts of all places who thinks you can be cured in a couple of weeks.

Your course of treatment can vary greatly from maybe a few months to the rest of your life. It all depends and no one can tell you ahead of time.

The important thing is to start getting proper treatment. Stay on the antibiotics until your symptoms are gone and then some. I tell you this based on my own experience.

Hi I am from Mass and I have a great doctor who believes in long term treatment. She is very knowledgable in Lyme!!!

I have been taking my hubby to her for at least 1 1/2 years to 2years.

She knows the guidelines but she is willing to do more than the limits. She checks you regularly. Like blood test for co infections and the Lyme.
She is very thourough... The best thing is she believes the symptoms and doesn't thing your crazy!!!!!
