Hi,
New to post, but not to lyme. I am 59 and my hair is falling out. The thyroid test was normal. I had a hysterectomy in 97 and am on the patch. Any suggestions?

My hair is falling out all over the place.

At work they tease me and tell me to clean up my hair.

I think it is the plaquenil so I'm tapering down off it.

Good Luck,

Hi, Merk and Heather,

My hair is falling out al over the place, and I am not taking Plaquenil. Tested positive for Lyme and I'm on a lot of antibiotics.

I keep buying Draino!

I think Lyme itself can cause it ... but ... are you protecting your body by taking milk thistle?? anti-oxidants?? B vitamins?? Well-rounded diet??

Could be that certain abx make matters worse. My LLMD said he has yet to see a bald [from Lyme or Lyme treatment] Lyme patient, so hang in there!! [Big Grin]

I, too, am losing lots of hair, although no bald spots. I am not on antibiotics. My thyroid is normal. I take plenty of vitamins and minerals and am on a low carb diet.

I do rife some and do the vitamin C/salt protocol.

Losing hair is unnerving. Now I understand guys and their(not all of them) paranoia about going bald.

consider:
having a complete thyroid panel repeated twice more. if the TSH is within normal range, labs will not test for other thryoid parameters---big mistake. have them done inspite of normal TSH.

get check lists of thyroid symptoms and follow them for a period of time.

one Sx list is on http://www.arthritistrust.org

good luck

This has happened twice to me.......last summer and this summer. Each time it started around June and went for at least 8 weeks....coming out every day, massive glob in the shower and then again when combing out......

I've never linked it to anything I was taking at the time no changes in meds. Mine has also come back in with more wave in some cases curly!! ... I did use Nioxin and the stuff really made my hair grow quickly - my little nubbers are now 2 inches long already, and it is ALL OVER not in any specific place........Just one more nifty lyme thing to deal with......I seriously thought it was time for the wig.......But then it stopped!!

When I was very sick last year just before I

started treatment. I lost tons of hair and it

turned really gray. It seemed like overnight.

It has since grown back and it isn't gray

anymore.

One of my boys also lost alot of his hair. It

became extremely sparse. He is on Plaquenil and

it has grown back.

I lost about 1/2 of my hair after I was bit. Now it only comes out several pieces a day. I take 2 thyroid meds and biotin but alas if your llmd has never seen a bald lymes patient - I'll take that as comfort.

Hi Merk!

Hair loss was one of my symptoms for many years prior to Lyme Dx and after. It has finally stopped after six years of treatment!!! I was doing everything I could with diet and supplements during all of that time.

I have been taking plaquinel for almost three years and the hair stopped falling during this time...I'm just saying that whatever treament is giving you improvement.....the hair loss will also probably improve.

Hang in there!!

Miss lightfoot also had the problem and it has pretty much resoled with treatment.

Lymetoo,
My hairdresser recommended it.....she has found it works well for lots of her clients who have some kind of hair loss.

http://www.nioxin.com/about_nioxin/index.cfm

I have not researched just tried it and have been using since July....like I said my lil nubs are now 2 inches long already and wavy in most cases!!....It's nice it's minty and it tingles on your scalp when you use it.......It's definitely a deep cleaning shampoo.
