My husband and I are changing health insurances and I need to know ASAP anyone's experience with the two options available to us:

United Health Care PPO (through definity)
Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO

Other than my current HMO (which is horrible), those are the only plans available to us. I need to know this info ASAP about people's experience with their treatment of lyme, i.e. meds, etc etc.... My husband just dropped a bomb on me and told me the change needs to be done by this wednessday morning.

I was out of town until yesterday, or I would have answered this sooner, or at least got it to the top to draw attention from other people. I hope you got some good info elsewhere.

My experience with Blue Cross has been okay. But others in other parts of the country have complaints.

Not an easy decision, but I hope you have good results with whatever you chose.

We're both former state of Iowa employees. Hubby RETIRED with full benefits. I left after 30 yrs. 7 months with NO benefits since I was only 49.

We have BCBS program 3 plus and covered under the STATE'S group plan.

My rx med MAX is $250 out of pocket per person.

At moment, I think it's 800 out of pocket MAX plus $15 per office visit/lab/xrays,

Please check to see if your/hubbies insurnance might let you be in their GROUP retiree plan.

We also just got our state letter saying STATE'S retiree/DISABLED insurance coverage is better than what is being offered for MEDICARE D, and we should keep it, and not get another plan! We are to keep & make copies of this letter so 1% delay is NEVER added if the state were to drop us.

BCBS of California is NOT good, but better than anyone else I had to choose from. PPO is better than the HMO, as I am sure you know. Can you get a hold of their bennie books and study them to see what the real differences are?

As far as Lyme and BCBS, seems they will do the minimal required and sometimes more if you have a good doc's office who will PUSH for you. They refuse more than 30 days IV no matter what though. [Frown]

I dont know about United.

I think BCBS is the lesser of two evils from what I've heard on this board for 5 yrs.

However, it all depends on YOUR particular policy. All BCBS plans are not created equal.
