How many of us gain support from some animal in our lives?
I know I do.
My little cat, rosie, got me through some of the worst times -
when I couldnt walk and stuff she wouldn't leave my side....
And she was very old and had arthritis herself.
When she died I didn't know how I was going to make it through all of the trials of lyme....
Then my little boy (cat), Twilight, showed up and he has lived with us since Dec 02.
When I'm having a bad day.... either intense symptoms.....
or just sick of being sick...
He will jump up on the couch ...... greet me with a meow and lick my nose....
Its hard to feel reall bad about things after that.
I really think drs. should encourage patients
with chronic illnesses to get animals if they can .....
I think they help so much.

My cat has been my rock thru all of this.
She cuddles with me and sometimes just stares and watches me making sure I am OK.
The best and funiest is when i used to pee every 10 min or so, there she would be running along side of me to the bathroom.
while i dont make as many trips to the bathroom, each time i make a visit she is right by my side.
She is the best :-)

I was hoping to see a post like this one.
Animal pals are invaluable supports/companions when living with debilitating illness!
I often notice these days that the only time I smile, is at my dear cat pals. That is worth so much!
For their part, I think my cats are secretly thrilled that I am home sick so much. They sure do love all the relaxing with blankets and hot water bottles. Posted by santa_pax (Member # 8318) on :

I'd like to hear more about the furry (or slimey or scaley or feathered) pals of Lyme patients!

What great post!!
I have two dogs. Jack is my 6 year old Beagle. He follows me everywhere and is so loving and a load of fun to have around.
Just this week I adopted my neighbors 2 1/2 year old dachshund (sp?) What an absolute sweetie!! He too follows me everywhere and loves to sit in my lap.
My pets are great-very loving. My kids however, are my true therapy. They keep me going.

I love this topic!
I have an 11-year-old Aussie. He misses having me as his woods companion and is always trying to get me to go further and do more.
Sometimes, he'll just stand in the back door, look at me, then look at the door, like, "well, what are we waiting for?"
The periodic seizures I've had really freak him out a lot.
He's been sick many years of his life. He's not well trained, refuses to let us groom him...but he has these soulful eyes, he's one brave guy, and he has a heart the size of Montana.
Also a former alley cat who adopted us a year ago. Whenever he sees either of us, he just flops right down and rolls over to have his belly rubbed.
These two take me out of myself and remind me of the simple joy of just being alive.

We have 3 furry angels and I don't know what I would do without them.
One small mutt, very old, white and fluffy.
One westie full of energy and our jokester.
And a chocolate lab who worries constantly about me, follows me from room to room and is so sweet.
They love that I am at home too and I talk to them all day and look looney as heck.
I spend a great deal of time letting them all in and out and cleaning up accidents when I don't get off the couch in time to let them out but they are absolutely worth it.

I became ill with Lyme Disease due to my love for animals and I wanted to help them.
For what it is worth to any of you...With all the SUFFERING I have endured over the past 18 months....
I do NOT regret helping the animals at all!
I hope I live a long life, if I do not, then I have lived a long life compared to those who died at birth. 42 More Years longer!
