anyone use this ? Where did you get it?? Sounds like it would taste bad. I will be starting IV next week, and besides probiotic pills thought it might help

Patti,

Someone recently mentioned kefir in a thread, so you might want to do a search.

You can buy it in most health food stores that sell yogurts, etc.

It's a yogurt product (I think that's right), and I remember liking it a lot.

Probably all a matter of taste; I happen to really like the taste of yogurt.

I love Kefir. I also love yogurt. It's a similar taste.

Flavored kefir is usually sweeter, but that's because sugar is added. The plain is better for you.

I do. Order the grains online and make it myself. I order from a company that uses same grains that Mercola.com sells apparently.

I have been drinking kefir since i was little, it's like a yogurt shake. It's great! But it's sweetened most of the time so just check the labels.

erpatti,

Ask your doctor for a prescription with an EPI pen and carry it around with you everywhere you go! In case you are allergic to the abx, it could save your life.

Hi erpatti, I have been postng about kefir. I found it to be the most effective probiotic. It has 10 live strains that have great chance of planting because of the thickness of the milk. I also take more probiotics with it.

I drink a quart a day. I buy the plain by lifeway at whole foods. I really like it. Most of all I'm praying it will smother the bart.

Good Luck

Wishful thinking, I guess.

Gael...So it's kept your yeast at bay? I'm afraid of it causing yeast in me!

It's no trouble to make. You buy the grains (which are a dry powder you get from places - in the US - like Mercola.com) or elsewhere.) Just whisk the grains into about a quart of milk and let sit in room temp for about 24 hours.

I first learned about kefir from Mo on this board. . .

I have real grains and have been culturing my own kefir for my family, myself and friends/relatives for the last few months.

I saw my llmd yesterday and took her some live grains - she requested. She has become very interested in the last few months.

Once you get the process down it is very easy and very inexpensive.

Also, the cultures grow quickly and some people are willing to share their extra grains for the cost of postage. Since the weather has turned warmer, try to either find someone that lives close (same state) or that dehydrates grains.

The powder starters can be used and so can the pre-made, both are good but more expensive and neither have the full complement of microflora activity as the real grains produce - see http://users.chariot.net.au/%7Edna/kefirpage.html#microflora

This is a good faq site:

My children/hubby don't care for the taste (tastes a little like buttermilk) I add pineapple & banana to the blender and they drink large shakes of this for lunch - 4 hrs away from morning and evening abx.
