If you had 5 minutes with a "Steere-camp" doctor or scientist and could ask them anything you wanted - what would you ask them?
I'm still trying to work out what I would ask

I would recruit them for the first manned mission to Mars. This would be a one-way trip.

How can you stand there and tell me there is NO CHRONIC LYME DISEASE? I've been extremely sick for 36 years since I was diagnosed w/mono in Feb. 1970. Correctly dx w/lyme 34 years later and in lyme treatment almost 2 full years now & going downhill rapidly ... seeing my MORTALITY ahead of me.
Recent blood labs that 3 different types of epstein barr virus are STILL in me after 36 years!
Do you have any idea what it is like having SUPER SENSITIVE EYES where ALL LIGHT/DIRECT & INDIRECT, GLARE & REFLECTION gives you powerful migraines all day long if you don't have COMPLETE avoidance of them? My husband says we live in a "morgue". Would you like doing this 24/7? No, I didn't think so.
Also, to have such SENSITIVITY to NOISE/SOUNDS. I don't enjoy hearing a pin drop and all sounds have such AMPLIFICATION that it's unbearable! Then hubby is is deaf in 1 ear, and a hearing aid out of the other. What a nightmare watching tv together for a "family" evening and each of us having our own remote control for volume control!
Chemical sensitivities ... can't be around ALL SMOKERS & Heaven forbid, their heavy smoky clothing! All those STINKY PERFUMES, colognes, hair spray, some office supplies, cleaning products, and food ... just want to make me puk.
I wasn't in a grocery store for 5 years due to all the smells in there.
Would you enjoy living in the bathroom with irritable bowel/bladder syndrome? The toilet paper companies love me, but I'd rather be elsewhere.
It's your sticking attitudes that cause us such hard times being approved for SSDI, social security disability insurance, benefits when we no longer can perform our jobs up to the work standards we once had prior to this DEADLY, disabling disease.
If you're going to believe chronic lyme doesn't exist, why should DDS and admin law judges? Horse pucky!
Now, it's YOUR turn to have CHRONIC LYME disease for the rest of your lives, and we'll see if you change your attitude and what you believe in since you are NOW walking in our chronic lyme shoes? uffda... Posted by dontlikeliver (Member # 4749) on :
I think what I'd like to ask A. S. himself if I had the chance would be:
"Why have you dont a u-turn from what you said in the 80s about Lyme, to what you say now"??
(obviously what he says these days aren't helping folks like us)

More important than what I would ask them is....
what I would DO to them. Would there be video cameras or CSI?

You were probably thinking of something involving rotten tomatoes?

Well - the first thing I'd do is teach them to read international peer reviewed medical works, other than their own. That would be helpful.
Then I'd teach them how to do an appropriate long term medical study. That also would come in handy before proclaiming the non-existence of chronic infection. You'd think that'd be a critical process, wouldn't ya?
I'd ask them to actually proove long term treatment is ineffective -- also prudent before stating it is not.
Then I'd ask them - what qualifications do you have to be making such determinations ??
The second thing I'd do is ask for records of all of their income, bonuses, contracts as case reviewers for insurance, or connections with large teaching universities - and eachother.
I'd ask them to recall some of their work decades ago -- and ask -- who odered the Code Red?
Then I'd ask them to credibly diagnose a chronically ill patient with a difinitive Lyme diagnosis in their history - who is still very ill.
--- 'Throw away diseases' which have no cause, no basis in scienctific explaination - and no cure, just drugs for symptoms - don't count.
and I'd ask them how many patients with chronic Lyme symptoms they had given a 'trash can' diagnosis to in their careers.

I would show them pics of my inflamed bladder and what the untreated lyme is doing to the insides of my body.
I have the pics to prove it now!!! Something is eating my bladder.

I would also like to ask them if they or a family member got a TBI and had the reccommended treatment and where still sick
would they treat longer?
And finally how the hello can they live with themselves.

This week Frontline had an excellent show on the Age of Aids.
Back in the early era there was a group of US Doctors now called denialists about HIV/Aids.
Here is an excerpt from Dr Ho, a true expert in the field and named Time's Man of the year.
Dr Ho do you want to characterize and describe some of the theories of AIDS denialists? ... What was out there and was available for them to grab on [to] if they wanted to say that HIV was not the cause of AIDS?
"I think this is a long subject if you want to discuss it properly, but the denialists were aided by the fact that in the mid- to late '80s, we weren't finding a lot of HIV, and so HIV was present in relatively small amounts, and yet the destruction of the immune system was so severe. It really enhanced their story.
As techniques got better and as the studies were done, that apparent paradox was resolved, but the denialists were stuck, and they kept saying it's not the case in the face of mounting evidence. I mean, if HIV doesn't cause AIDS, then how would anti-HIV drugs lead to such dramatic improvement in one's well-being? And that's only one example. There are plenty of examples to do away with this ridiculous theory.
But of course some people have been reading nothing but literature from this particular group, and unfortunately I think in surfing the Internet, [South African President Thabo] Mbeki was greatly influenced by their writings and came up with the idea that maybe HIV is not the cause of the problems that the South Africans were facing.
Certainly by the time of the Durban conference, he was still openly questioning whether HIV was the cause, and at the opening ceremony, he in fact said the cause of AIDS was poverty." _ Many South Africans suffered and died as a result of the Denialists point of view and the disease spread further... I wonder how the Lyme denialists sleep at night and that is my question.

I got a lot of ranting out of me that may be hasn't been shown to a lot of you. Once I started typing, I couldn't stop.

I think I'd ask, since they don't believe in long term lyme, or the damage it causes then WHY IS IT ON THE CDC POSTER in my doc's office under "call this number within 24 hours (babesiosis) to report, or in a timely manner (Lyme).." Why is it now noted as a bioterrorism tool?

Good one Timica! Posted by dontlikeliver (Member # 4749) on :

We would have a long conversation about pleomorphic organisms. How abx stimulate cyst forms which hang around and cause problems forever.
You would have to either be an idiot or (more likely) trying to hide something and play dumb.
Imagine if he actually acknoweldged the persistance of lyme...there would be lawsuits, and scandals at Yale, and the CDC
Wait a minute...now THAT sounds like a great news story--- Imagine Enron and Yale liars all in prison together!

I would ask them if I could duplicate the 15 suicide attempts that my daughter has made and use them as the guinea pigs...Since she must be well because she has way over the recommeded treatment so all the attempts must be imaginery.
Let's see if God would save them as he has her each time.
