It has been quite some time since I've been here. For any that remember me, my Son is now in College as a Freshman. Back when I first started here he was in Junior High School.
Has any one in the course of research ever found any instance of a person acquiring Babesiosis in it's solitude? In other words, no association with Lyme?
I need to find some ammunition to use for dealing with the VA. Being negative for LD but positive for Babs has them stumped. Heck, rheumy even says he remembers me because I have "that thing he can't pronounce".

Lymies3, You posed an interesting question. Of course they realize how bad and unreliable the lyme tests are......so they have to realize that they may be getting a false "negative" result on lyme test. Gosh i hope they know that!!!!
I have babesia and so does my 13 yr old daughter. It is possible but i've never run into anyone who didn't have both.......It would be possible surely.
Somewhere i have an article that a scientist did on ticks in PA or NJ that broke down the number of pathogens....babs was on the low side.
PM me and i'll try and find it to send to you!!! It may help. I'm guessing they may have never seen a study like that which identified numbers of ticks and what was in them.

Hi Sal, Hey look Sal... Bay Pines won't treat me for lyme disease of any kind cuz the testing lab they sent my blood to came up negative.
In so far as the VA system is THE BIGGEST HMO in the world...this does'nt surprise me...
Same situation in Cleve., Ohio when I was there.
You must get an independent test from Igenex...the VA won't recognize it...but then you can go to your congressman and demand they treat you.
I doubt very seriously if you have Babs and no Borelia....
I on the other hand have borelia and as yet have tested negative for babs.....
Yup these tests are REAL dependable....LOL Good luck........zman

While babesia is not included in this survey, it does show that ticks vary in the disease agents they carry, and one can presumably have any combination of germs, depending on the particular tick in that area.
I think that in general babesia is not well known, so it is not surprising that doctors and researchers are behind the curve in looking for it and treating it. An internist in a lyme endemic state asked me if I had been doing any foreign travel. He never heard of babesiosis and thought it was some foreign ailment.
Maybe if they ever get around to making it nationally reportable.....but then we would still have the problem of doctors not looking for it, and therefore not reporting it.

Tony - Am I correct in assuming you're the Tony here in the Tampa Bay area with the Lyme group on Yahoo? Thank you, Thank you for the insight in dealing with the VA. I use the Tampa VA hospital. It has one of only 14 Womens Centers within the country. I would love to email you with some stuff going on with the VA and gain further insight.

Thanks bunches Lymetoo although of course I'd prefer NOT to need to be here, for obvious reasons. The reasons are NOT about the people here though, which of course are wonderful!
Err, could you remind me who are you? LOL I haven't been involved with LD communities for the most part since about 2002 or so. There are some folks I surely remember, such as Lou and Tincup and Lovey and others too.
My son got a lot better after his LD therapy. Unfortunately, he abhors hearing the words "Lyme Disease" in any context. Yet, he knows that it could rear its ugly head at any time for him.
