Hey gang. I could use your prayers on Wed 9/13. I have to have an endoscopy and a colonoscopy. I cannot swallow food without it hurting near where the esophagus meets the stomach. Very painful.
In general I have poor digestion and keep getting yeast infections, although I follow the yeast free diet and am antibiotics free.
Of course the G.I. doc told me to gain weight today (I'm down to 91 pounds), but offered no suggestions as how to accomplish that since I don't digest and absorb food well and everytime I add starches I get yeast.
Anyway, would appreciate prayer that if something is wrong it is easily fixed. Hiker

Hiker,
I had an endoscopy and colonscopy last year. It was pretty painless. Although I did have a muscle spasm afterwards that felt like a gallbladder attack. So make sure you stay around and take the time to recover.
As far as your weight, have you ever tried adding amino acids? They can help with digestion and absorption.
Also, are you doing anything to eliminate yeast besides the diet? Do you take antifungal meds or herbs? Probiotics? The diet alone is not enough.

I can't remember if you have been tested for Celiac Disease in the past, so forgive me if this is an old, boring topic.
But if not, while doing the endoscopy, I hope a knowledgeable gastroenterologist will biopsy your small intestine.

I had to go thru many of these and I would say the prep was for the colon test the hardest part.
Try to sleep & rest as much as possible durning the day because you may be up all night going.
And while you are preping durning the day load up on electrolites & water because you wil go alot. Of course NBM after midnight.
The actual test was no problem because I was out for , just always remembering waking up thirsty
I can't stress enough to ask your doc to take as many biospy's as possible from different locations if possible. And test for everything, yeast, celetic, H-plyori, lyme or co's if possible ect..
When you come home from the test make sure to drink as much water as possible and make sure to replace your electrolites. Take it real easy for a while.
My throat was just a little sore for a couple of days.
I'll be praying for you & pray that the doctor will only find the truth.

I've had 2 endoscopies. I have a SMALL mouth; make sure they use the right size for YOUR mouth. 2nd time I got them to use CORRECT size and it went much better.
Had 2 or 3 colonscopies. Last one I had an anestheologist put me to sleep. I didn't feel anything & was in my room shortly thereafter. I didn't know anything had been done.
1 before this I was NOT under and could hear every word he said, breath Betty breath; over & over for 7-8 times. I told him about that afterwards.
So if you can't get to delta 4 SLEEP, request to be put under like I did.
Prep for colon; I hope you ask for the small bottle to drink vs. that huge 1 GALLON of pure awful tasting stuff! DRINK WATER LIKE MAD; it helps.

I remember what a big deal the idea of a colonoscopy was to me, and how routine it was forthe doctor.
In fact when they wheeled me into the procedure room, I couldn't help saying out loud-"I'm just wondering who would want to get up every morning to look up people's buttholes all day ?" Next thing I heard was "knock her out".
The days before an invasive procedure are tough-so I'm not going to wait until tomorrow-you are in my thoughts and prayers today, right here, right now.

Hiker, been there..And I agree the prep is mostly the worst part..
If the problem is where you indicate, that is usually the spincter or hiatal hernia area.. I had issues with both and also a para esophageal hernia..(Where the stomach decides to rip thru the diaphram and make a new home in the body cavity.)
All is probably fixable if it is damaged. And months later, I can eat and breathe again..

Thanks for your prayers. This will be the 3rd time in my life I have had this done.
Aniek--I take lots of probiotics. I just finished 2 weeks of diflucan for thrush along with nystatin liquid. I was taking oregano and caprylic acid until I got the pain and then I stopped.
Jill--The doctor will test for celiac, although it has come back negative in the past. However, I am not eating gluten anyway, so I doubt he will find anything.
Since I am CDC positive Lyme, I can't see spending the money to do more lyme biopsies, but I would if I had not tested positive at Igenex.

I have had both done... the waiting and wondering what is was going to be like was worse than the procedures.
I hope they find out what is wrong.... and fix u up quickly.

Hey Hiker.....my prayers are with you too. I'm new here, but I just had an endoscopy done last week or so and a biopsy was taken becuz of inflammation in the esophogous and in my stomach. I had to cancel my appt. today so I won't know results til next Wed.
Some of you seem to know alot about these tests! Is there anything I should ask the dr. about? He knows nothing of Lyme!
