I've been reading and posting here for only about a month, and already have benefitted a great deal from the information I've found here. This board is a GREAT resource!
Developing resources and research tools is what I do for a profession. As I've perused the board for the past months, I have seen some ways I might be able to contribute to this lyme-netting community.
So, even at the risk of seeming like a brash newbie broad, I'm proposing to add another dimension to the board, though it would be located on another website.
The kind of website I have in mind is called a "wiki." What makes wikis different from other websites is that anyone who visits can help create what is there.
Here are some potential ways lyme-netters could make use of a wiki:
1. To collectively write/be able to read summaries of what individual lymenetters have already learned.
For example, suppose I am just beginning to take Malarone, and wonder what I can expect. A lot of us start a new thread to ask, but that means the same question gets asked again and again. It also means the information I would get by asking this question depends entirely on who took the time to answer my question.
And most likely, especially for those of us relatively new to tx, we don't what questions to ask in any case.
The other way to get to information here is of course to do a search through postings. But that can be a challenging thing to do, especially for those of us who are experiencing severe cognitive deficits. Put in "Malarone" and what comes back are large number of posts that must be gone through one by one, and often, the info in each is not quite what is being sought.
Here's how a lymewiki could make that particular situation different. Any and all with Malarone experience/knowledge could write a few words about that experience, make suggestions, or add cautions. The result would be a single central resource about Malarone.
Or about supplements. Or about various symptoms- anything at all, expecially those topics that come up on the board repeatedly or that old-timers know from experience to be especially useful.

If so, here's where you can find an initial experiment in creating a lyme wiki:
1. log in on "main page" 2. go to "community portal page" 3. anytime you visit the page you can either just read what is there or you can add to what is there. 4. To add to what is there, choose "edit" and go to whatever section you want to add to, then type. OR create a new section. Then click on "save changes".
The first four sections are:
1. Share your lyme story
2. Share ideas for yeast-free low carb meals
3. Share lyme weblinks you have found most helpful.
I put in Wild Condor's as a test of how to insert a weblink. It is VERY easy to do so. (Note: Copyright law definitely applies here- links cannot be included without first securing permission.)
Also- it looks like any file that can be stored on your computer can be copied directly onto the wiki. It is also possible to change format so that you can print wiki content out on a printer.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Better yet, jump in and help with the creation.

Myself, I intuit art not this techy stuff, but IMO, there's so much much promise with this wiki concept it's worth the initial struggle.
Here's the How To- let me know if it doesn't work for you.
2. Look under "First Steps"- click on blue underlined link that says LOG IN
3. Look for "create an account,"
4. provide a user name and a password.
4. After you are logged on, go to Community Portal (link is on left hand side). Right now the Portal is the only page.
5. Click on Edit if you want to add or change anything.

*PS- Memorial work-in-progress docs can go on this wiki if you like- on a separate page- or it could have a wiki to itself.

Hi Dilly, I can't find a place that says "first steps". (Ok, it may be there but I'm missing it.)
I found a link at the top that says "Create an account or log in"
When I attempt to do that I come back with this error message: Login error: There is no user by the name "Trueblue". Check your spelling, or use the form below to create a new user account.
Username: trueblue Password: *****
I got the same thing yesterday; any idea what I'm doing wrong?

edit again: It looks much nicer from Firefox but I'm still getting the same result. (Except it doesn't say errors on the page.)

go to the main page, find and click on "special pages" on left hand side menu, then choose crate an account /login.
does that work?
i had no difficulty, but I am also the defacto administrator at the moment, so maybe that made a difference.
(will keep editing log in steps in my original post til this gets workd out)

How would you feel about putting a (reformatted) copy of the "newbie links" on the lyme-wiki?
I think the hugest advantage in doing so is making all the acummulated, collective info in the links easier to search, and thus more accessible.
What do you think?

Hmm... nope that worked the same. Gonna try it a little later.
(BTW, if you get permission from Tree and you need reformatting done I might be able to help there. Kind have to see the site to see if I know how to do such a thing.... but it's possible. )

No need (for now) to log on to either read or edit.
For security purposes, obviously having people log on would be advisable, to prevent trolls etc. from messing with content.

Perhaps you created a single-page, single user site. EditThis seems to have both options on its main page.
Dilly, click on the right-hand side of the Main Page of EditThis, and create a site for 5 or more users.
See if that works for you....

Hmm, somehow, the registration for other users is missing -- dunno, try going into it from another computer like you were a new user, see if you can find the link to register.

I just wondered how this is going? I think this is such an awesome idea!!
I heard that wikipedia is going to be taken down due to abusive posts, etc., and replaced, but I don't know any details. I think the new one will require more stringent posting rules.
I just found another wiki ... Microbe Wiki. Borellia is there.
