Just found this site - can't believe so many are telling my story. Catching on to all abbreviations - but what does " herx " mean?? Unfortunately my symtoms include uveitis, which is inflamation of the eyes. So several times I have lost my eye sight - NOT FUN!!! Can anyone recommend Drs. in the Philadelphia area???

Hi welcome to lymenet
Herx is an abrevated for for herxhiemer reaction (I assure I butched the spelling)
Anyway a herx is when the bacteria dies off and your body gets toxic (You have more junk in your system then your system is capable of clearing out)
This causes your current symptoms to get worse, and/or new ones to pop up, and/or old ones can return.
You might want to post on seeking a dr. make sure your pm is enabled cuz we do not post lyme literate drs (llmd) names or info on the board
If you need a specialist for your eyes you could ask about that too.
I know some people on the board have had some real eye problems too.
Best wishes

thanks for your replies.
I am seeing an Opthamologist who is a uveitis specialist and an immunologist - but he, as most opthamologist would do - is treating the symptoms and not the cause.
I have been all over - NY - Phila, Wills Eye Hospital and Johns Hopkins. I have just recently seen a Dr who is affiliated with the Integrated Medicine Division of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Phila. -after reviewing all my symptoms, this Dr brought up the idea of all this stemming back to Lyme. Also told me of all the political implications of treating Lyme.
I am taking this opportunity to read, post and learn as much as I can because (not to be dramatic, but....) I don't know when or if I will lost my sight again.
As posted in Med Ques - I am having a spinal on Friday to check for a myriad of possibilities. Not looking forward to this.
I am trying to find a Dr who check me for Lyme and treat me if necessary.
