Our Trails is undergoing yet another surgery today.
Please keep her close in your thoughts and prayers for strength, endurance and all things healing.
I will try to keep you all updated as I am able.
Thank you so very much, Melanie

Include Hiker in your prayers, as she is having a hysterectomy today.

Melanie, Please send tell Trails that she is in our thoughts and prayers.
How long is she expected to be in the hospital?
Posted by Melanie Reber (Member # 3707) on :
Hello all,
I just spoke very quickly with her partner...
the surgery began at 7:30am this morning (west coast time) and 4 hours have been blocked out.
Due to Trails' ongoing pain med intolerances... trying to decide upon and then acquire an Rx for post-op is the current issue.
Sorry, this is all I know right now...
Thank you so much for your well wishes.
And yes, the very best to Hiker with her own procedure today as well.

Any news?
Posted by Melanie Reber (Member # 3707) on :
Good evening all,
I just spoke with Trails for a quick minute and with her partner for a bit.
Basically, the surgery went well. It lasted the full 4 hours. Her GB was removed along with some endometriosis. There was a small complication during surgery with the uturea (sp), but that was repaired.
An abdominal tube was placed to make sure there will be proper drainage, and of course her all time favorite...another catheter for approx a week or two.
She is coming out of recovery fairly well and will be moved soon once shift changes are completed.
I will be speaking with her again tomorrow evening once I return home and hope to visit the next day.
Thanks so very much to each of you for your well wishes...I will be certain to pass them on.
Much love, Melanie

ps Northstar-that's exactly the kind of reality based feed back I would want so there would be no surprises. I can just picture you trying to get through the tube pulling procedure. Makes me laugh.
Reminds me of how nervous I was when I wound up in ER with a displaced catheter-and a very young looking tech. I wouldn't let her touch me until I was sure she had experience with this sort of problem. I kept backing up on the gurney trying to escape. Turns out she knew her stuff and did a great job. Still sending love and hugs your way!!!
How is it going now?
Posted by Melanie Reber (Member # 3707) on :
Good morning all,
Please forgive me for not getting back to you sooner; I know you are all waiting for more word on our friend.
I was able to visit with Trails yesterday for a few hours in the hospital. At that time, they were waiting for her doc to come, and were hoping to be discharged that afternoon.
When I left, the doc had not arrived as of yet and was delayed for a few more hours. Trails looked and said that she was understandably exhausted, so I left to give her a chance to try and rest a bit before the evening's activities.
She still had the Cath of course, and was waiting for the doc to remove the tummy tube before discharge. Her meds were helping somewhat with the pain, but were also causing some side effects of itching and a few unpleasant hallucinatory experiences.
She was able to get up and with much help, walk around a bit... but even with the meds, it was obvious that she was still experiencing allot of pain.
I have to interject here, that our Trails is one of the bravest and strongest individuals that I have ever had the pleasure to know. With all that she has and continues to endure...her constant good nature, sense of humor, unique intellect, concern for others and many other endearing qualities always light up the room. Yes, even the hospital rooms.
Hopefully, as I write this, she and her Mother, who came out from the east coast to be with her, are sleeping soundly in the Hotel that they have booked for a couple of days for post-op.
I will give her a call in a few hours, and if there is anything new to report- I will be sure to fill you in.
My best, Melanie

Melaine
I'm somewhat new around here (2 months young) but I gotta say in reading and seeing what everyone's going thru with what ever - I gotta say this....
Trails must be truly amazing and mostly a TROPPER to say the least in all that she has had to endure on top of the Lyme stuff, as I have read her stories here.
And Yes even thru all that - sbe still shines with compassion for others!
PS - I'm back in under myself this coming friday, it's been one thing after another since august. But again I will be ok! (Kidney stone blasting)- (Endo) and now kidney stone blasting again.
PSS - plesae excuse some of the spelling errors - somtimes things look right but there not - and or vis versa.

melanie, you are such a kind and genetle soul and friend. Thanks for starting this thread on my behalf. i have to say i was alittle embarrased to say...going into surgery again. makes me feel somewhat like a failure on some level, even while I understand on a different level that is NOT the case.
I am in the hotel now with my mom. I am getting a tiny bit better each day.
NORTHSTAR--you were so right! My doc was pretty sneaky though--"he said now when I say so I want you to take a deep breath in and..." then he pulled it!! I jumped a foot off the bed and grabbed his hand. He tricked me---I was ready to take the breath, and he pulled it out. smart doc. It worked well coz I wasnt expecting it.
I am not happy about the catheter at all.
It was great to have Melanie come to visit me! and it is nice to have my mom here so that my partner can work and all the care doesnt rest in her hands.
We wont know how successful the surgery was for a few weeks. so kkep those open ureter thoughts coming!
You are all so wonderful to think of me and say such caring and thoughtful things. I really made me smile and feel warmth inside! thank you.
I want to respond to folks individually but I wont be able to---the screen is swimming around and it is exhausting. Just know that each of you mean so much to me, and it is coz of your support that I can sometimes put on a brave face and bully through all this crap.
Ladylee! please tell me more...maybe we could help eachother through some of this?
Hiker---how are you recovering?
thanks everyone you rock, trails

Trails, great to hear from you and to know things went well -- at least to this point. I'll keep thinking positive thoughts about the news to come.
Glad you've got your Mom there with you; tell her all she's missing her is 20-something degree weather.
You take care of yourself; just focus on healing.
And, again, thanks so much for keeping us posted!

WooHoo Trails, so so good to see you, so to speak.
I'm glad this is passed and will keep open ureter and healing thoughts coming your way. I'm sorry about the cath again but this is the last time, right?
Hang in there and heal up and thank you for updating us. And thank you to Melanie for keeping us posted throughout.
much love and speedy healing, bluey Posted by hiker53 (Member # 6046) on :
Trails,
Glad you came through surgery well and are recovering. I have decided that the doctor did not do a hysterectomy on me, but rather he let an elephant tramp all over my lower abdomen.
I am dealing with an ear infection and vertigo, which is how my Lyme started. Why now?
Anyway, you are in my prayers. Hiker

Trails, I'm so glad to have just seen this thread, I was getting really stressed when I hadn't heard back from a recent email to you to find out how you were doing! (Spending too much time in Medical and not enuf in Support!)
It's great to hear the good news and I'm so glad your mom is with you and Mel's visiting and you're getting about, after a fashion.
I know how tough you are, but I sure hope this is your last surgery for a while, y'know? Sheesh.
I'm keeping on sending the warm thoughts and hugs your way. Thanks so much for your update!
Love,
Michelle

hi again everyone!
just wanted to let you know I am FINALLY HOME!! I had a very very very rough night last night, and we still are not sure what exactly took place internally. This morning was nearly as bad, but this afternoon the pain finally let up.
the pain last night was that KNIVES in the pelvis pain that signals fluid in one's pelvis. for those familiar with this--- it can be from ruptured cysts or endo or urinary retention or peritonitis and the pain is undeniably horrific.
I havent had a fever, am moving my bowels okay, and was really otherwise doing quite fine. so why this happened is a mystery for everyone.
Hopefully now that I am HOME things will get better and better.
it is great to see everyone here and thank you all so much for your concern and prayers. It is helping me feel less lonely in this lonely world of illness.
I am not PMing or doing email right now---too much to handle. so check this thread for updates!
with love, trails

Hiker....I guess the Lyme couldn't stay down forever....%$#@&!!! Please have a great evening yourself!

update:
got my catheter taken out yesterday. am peeing but it is very painful.
my pelvic pain has gone through the ROOF. and I can not take any pain meds besides advil as they put me at risk for urinary retention right now.
my gallbladder was swollen and thickened when they took it out. havent gotten Igenex PCR results yet.
My ureter was practically severed when the surgeon tried to free it from the fibrosis and take the scarring off it.
All pathology sais NO ENDOMETRIOSIS!! this is HUGE and bizarre news. In previous surgeries every pathology report was positive for endo. I had endo all over my pelvis. Now none. This is good news--but confusing as it doesnt explain my symptoms.
keep the flowing urine thoughts flowing. I still have my ureteral stent in and when it is removed next month we will know if this whole thing is behind me or not.
thank you all over and over again for your thoughts, your prayers, your notes, your emails your all. It has helped me in so many ways that you will never know!
be well trails

trails, you poor dear; hopefully 07 will have NO SURGERIES FOR TRAILS! 06 was enough for a lifetime for you.
thanks for your updates. 1 test showed i had endo also when they cut out a small area once. when i had my hysterectomy; female surgeon said there was NO endo; never made sense to me and i'm sure i'll never find the answer either.
thanks for posting; glad you showed you couldn't pm or do regular email; this is best for you to do the 1 posting, and all can come here to read it.

Our poor darling was in the ER for most of the day again yesterday.
She was in some severe pain and needed a CAT to check things over. I spoke with her tonight, and while she is dealing with sooo much, she is still such a trooper. Bless her heart.
Continued prayers and good thoughts would be so appreciated. Many thanks...

More prayers and good thoughts going out to my buddy trails. Hang in there sweety, I'm thinking of you and wishing you no more complications.
Thank you for the update, Melanie, I was starting to worry and obviously with good cause. Posted by Michelle M (Member # 7200) on :
I too hope my Trailsey is having a better day today. To update everyone, I know she won't mind my snipping and pasting the relevant portion of her email of yesterday. Besides, if I tried to paraphrase it, I would probably just screw up all the medical jargon anyway...
quote:spent the evening and night in the ER. ouch. bad bad iv starter and worse blood drawer. 7 hours. ct scan shows fluid in the pelvis and large ovarian cyst (even though all cysts were draind 2 weeks ago) and nothing else. the fluid is from surgery...to be expected. the pain from the fluid however, is out of control. that is why we went---coz my pain has NOT been getting better and my UA came back negative so we had to rule out stuff.
everything is ruled out. we are just plain nuts and in pain.
dont know if the ureter is opened enough. wont know till they pull the stent mid january. but the surgery was pretty telling and my urologist is already setting me up with another surgeon to reimplant the ureter into the bladder. we'll see.
I know (our mutual LLMD-name omitted) and the gang up there are just saints huh? he has called a few times in the last 6 months to check up on me and chat about my lyme stuff coz he knows I cant get up there given my insanity. he never charged me for any calls! and he even switched my meds and got them called in and everything!
Anyway, everyone please keep Trails in your thoughts as she's still got a rough road ahead. She really is a stylish act, managing to ask about others at a time when -- if it was ME -- that would be the LAST thing on my mind!
Hang in, Trailsey!
Love,
Michelle

Hey Trails, You are an impressive act. With so much going on I would be in self pity mode. How you manage to have time and energy to care for others I don't know. And you are FUNNY too.
I will keep praying for you and those who care for you.
And trails, you don't need to do anything other than take care of yourself and allow your body to heal. No need to send detailed replies. I am grateful for Michelles and Melanies updates though.
