Hi, This is not related to lyme but I need some

advice on my son. He has just been so sick

lately and his doctor does not seem concerned.

You are all so smart and can tell me if im over

reacting or not. He started out with an ear

infection diagnosed last friday, then a strange

diaper rash from a strep infection..then he got

the stomach flu on Saturday..Now pinkeye. He

looks like death and it is scaring me. He is

not eating more than two bites a day. He is

drinking water though. He always is bouncing off

of the wall no matter if he is sick or not and

now he just sits there.

He.is just so fatigued and is not playing much.

His eyes have lost their sparkle.

How much can a little guy

take?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Merry,
Does the doctor have him on ABX for the ear infection/strep?? I'm guessing he's a little one since you said diaper rash. Does he have fever (fever does make you lethargic)?

Can you get some baby probiotics into him or can he eat some yogurt?

I think if he's drinking and has had a stomach flu definately get some pedialyte into him. That should give him some strength back. Little guys dehydrate really fast.

I think I'd call the doctor's office back and tell them he seems so much worse. If they don't help perhaps you can take him to another doctor.

I have no kids, and no medical training, so am not much help. I hope you can get him some help to feel better soon

gee... I hope someone smarter than me stops by soon. [Frown]

Hi, He will be 3 in a couple of weeks. He no longer has a fever and he is on antibiotics for the ear infection and eye drops for his eye and an antibiotic cream for his butt. Getting him to take any med is hard. I have to basically force it down him. Then hold him down for the eye drops. He looks really bad.

Hi Believe3,

I am so sorry to hear your little guy is sick.

Trust your mother's instinct, you know your son better than anyone else.

I would take him back to the doctor or see someone else.

Give him a big hug [group hug]

Merrie,

Is this your pediatrician that doesn't seem to be taking this seriously? If so, being a mother myself, I would be looking into getting a different one.

That doesn't solve the problem right now, but if you start to really worry and the doctor isn't looking at this, I would take the child to either one of those walk in type health clinics or else even the E.R. if that's what it takes to get noticed.

I honestly believe that the quality of healthcare is going downhill for EVERYONE. Not just lyme patients, but everyone. So sad.

Sorry he is so sick.

Don't hesitate to haul him back to the doctor again.

Your baby expects YOUR intervention to help him out... as he is unable to help himself.

If I have learned one thing in the past 20 years.. it would be..

Sometimes the doctors are WRONG! Actually they are wrong more often than not!

Good luck and keep us updated on his condition.

I am sorry your little guy is feeling so ill. I have two small children so I know how upsetting this is.

I agree with the advice of seeing another doctor as well. I am very aggressive about my children't healthcare.

I am lucky to have a wonderful pediatrian and sometimes I wonder if I am overreacting by taking my children to the MD every time I think something is "wrong".

I have found out that I am usually right. My children are asymptomatic for ear infections and other illnesses and had I not been so sure something was wrong, they would have gotten much sicker.

That is how I caught RSV in both of my babies. Trust your instincts. Moms are almost always right!!!

Also have a 3 year old boy who refuses most meds or spits them out. I am feeling your pain.

Hang in there.

Thank you guys so much.

This morning he looks a little better. He is

done taking his meds for his ear infection. I

am hoping he will just bounce back. When I pick

him up from Grandmas tonite I will take him back

to the doctor if he has not gotton any better.

It is so hard to know sometimes. I have brought

him to the doctor almost every week for the last

month. He had a really bad cold and i was

concerened about that. He just started getting

so sick last week. Part of me just knows that

having an ear infection and the stomach flu

would take the energy out of most people. It

just seems like he has no immune system or

something. I will definatlly take him back in

tonite if I feel I need too.

Thanks so much for your replys...I will keep you

posted!

Merrie,

Thanks for the update. I was wondering how he was doing.

Hopefully when you pick him up today, you will see some improvement. I definitely understand what a frantic time this can be.

Please continue to keep us posted and I do hope he will be feeling better very soon.

He looks much better today. I think he has turned a corner. I feel so much better now. He is still fighting this but he is eating again and his eyes have their sparkle back.

Thank God!
