Babesia makes everything worse. Makes it harder to get rid of Lyme.

The following signs/symptoms may be present in those infected with Babesiosis:
Fatigue*
Arthralgias*
Myalgia*
Drenching sweats*
Headaches*
Emotional lability*
Depression*
Dark urine*
Splenomegaly*
Dizziness*
Nausea and vomiting*
Cough*
Dyspnea*
Fever*
Chills*
Hepatosplenomegaly*
Jaundice*
Malaise*
Shortness of breath*
Bleeding tendencies,
bruising*
Thrombocytopenia*
Hemoglobinuria*
Hyperesthesia*
Pulmonary edema*
Encephalopathy*
Low to normal range leukocyte counts*
Possible elevated levels of dehydrogenase, bilirubin,
transaminase*
Anorexia*
Approximately 25%- 66% of Babesia patients are known to be co-infected with Lyme disease. These symptoms may continue for long periods of time, decrease, then return. A low Babesiosis titer (IgG) often indicates a chronic infection.
An acute or current infection may show a higher reading on the IgM test initially. There are over 100 species of Babesia in the United States but only ONE or TWO species are currently checked by commercial labs.

Hi there and welcome. Didn't you post that you thought you had cancer? Were the doctors mistaken, I hope, and now realize it is babesia? I will surely hope that's the case, anyway.

Babesia is a parasite - a coinfection often transmitted by the bite of a tick (along with lyme or by itself). It infects your red blood cells. Symptoms are almost indistinguishable from lyme.

It's treated with various anti-malarial drugs - Mepron/Zithromax and possibly artemisinin.

You might feel a LOT worse, then begin feeling better. Keep in close touch with your doc but don't be surprised if feeling REALLY terrible is part of getting better (it usually is).

Welcome to LymeNet and I hope we can help. Post often!

Michelle
