That is standard Babs tx. I hope you do well on it!! Most people need a short tx- some people need longer. I hope you have a doc who will go by you and not a textbook.

Mepron worked for me right away as far as eradicating symptoms!! I hope you know to take it with fat because it absorbs through that- if you don't eat/drink sometihng fatty with it it will not absorb properly- talk to your pharmacist if you have any questions!!!

Some people need longterm Babs tx but I don't know of anyone who maintains an infection against tx indefinitely. It is not like Lyme where it can be chronic for years and years and years forever.

I needed longterm Babs tx- MOST people need a month- a few months and it goes away!!! Many people do great with a month or two or even a few weeks. I hope you are one of them!!!

If you do a search in Medical Forum with "Mepron" you will get lots of Babs threads- read them!! This forum, General Support, is not answering you because there are not as many people who even read it. Medical is the big forum here to post questions like this in!!!
But also know that all the people who get betetr immediately with tx don't tend to seek out places like this in the first place- so we are overloaded with chronics because of that*)!!!!
The ones who get better quickly never come in the first place or come and go quickly-

Best wishes,
Hope you feel better soon!!!

Yes, definitely do a search here for all the mepron discussions.

I'm now free of babs, knock on wood. Ask your dr if you can later add artemisinin.

PS....you'll get more responses if you post this in Medical Questions.

My son has had amazing improvement on Mepron and 500mg Zith. He got too cranky and anxious on 2 tsp daily, so we went to 1 tsp M-F.

10 months evidently did the trick.

In our experience the Mepron can cause depression; esp for us anger. Anti-depressants and such can be essential to get through.

I have a cheerful, increasingly active 13yr old!

Hang in there,

Char

I've been being treated since Jan 20 of this year. I'm being treated for Lyme at the same time, so I don't know which is making the difference.

I'm am up to 50% from 15% where I started out in Jan. I'm certainly not back to normal, but it's so nice to be more functional.
