I recently found a tick on me. Had it removed by a friend and brought to my GP the next day. GP didn't believe it necessary to treat me or have the tick analyzed, so I left.

Found a LLMD who started treatment IMMEDIATELY, 500mg amoxicillin T.I.D.

The tick was ID'd as a Lonestar.

Has anyone here been confirmed bitten by one of those, and did Amox Treatment give good results??

Should I be on anything else, as Lonestars carry so many other diseases, in addition to the ones that Deer Ticks carry.

Thanks.

I'm sure I was bitten by a Lonestar tick in the Lone Star State!

Be sure to get checked for all coinfections....especially babesia.

I did not find amoxy to help me, but others have. The usual first course abx is doxycycline.

That is because doxy also takes care of ehrlichiosis, which can be deadly.

You were very smart to skip the ignorant do-nothing dr!!! .. or "duck" as we call them!!

Don't forget....Medical Questions go in Medical, where you will get many more responses.

Since I never saw the tick that bit me, I suppose

It is speculation that it is/was the lonestar tick.

However, my LLMD believes this to be the major vector in our area.

I have Lyme, babesia and bartonella...

My neighbor has erlichia (sp?), Lyme and babs.

My husband has Lyme, babs and possibly bartonella as well.

Just an FYI that these little critters can carry some other nasty stuff as well.

Hope you go symptom free following your round of aggressive antibiotic therapy.

Hugs,

Geneal

You know....I don't think that's enough. I think most take 1500mg a day or more.

How many weeks worth of amoxy??

Lymetoo, thanks for the info. when the tick was i.d.'d, I asked my doc if I should go on doxy but he felt that amoxicillin would be fine..but I will be seeing him again this week when we get the results back as to what the Lonestar was carrying..

Bettyg, thanks for sending the pages...where can i find them?? lol..I don't see them anywhere:S

Geneal, thank you..I'm on 3 weeks of Amoxicillin with a refill...for another 3 weeks if need be...

Lymetoo...500mgs T.I.D. is three times daily, so the total each day is 1500 mgs of amox. [Smile] ..for three weeks plus a refill for another three weeks if needed..

LYMETOO!

The tick went out thru QUEST LABS, sent to another facility in Nassau County, I'm not sure where he will be sent from there..

I hope he was sent to Igenex.

how do you use this reply thing? if I want to quote someone, I can't seem to figure it out, as when i click the QUOTES button, only the original post comes up..

I found the email function..hehe..took me a while..thanks!

oh.one more thing:

Yes, I'm concerned about babs and erhlic..but I spoke to a friend of mine who has chronic lyme.
she said, that being that I started treatment immediately, it should knock out the lyme that Lonestar might be carrying..and as long as the Lyme is knocked out, then the babs and ehriclia shouldn't have a chance to co-infect me.

but I will talk to my doc when I see him this week after they get the full Dx on the Lonestar tick.

thanks!
