Yesterday I was sitting on my porch doing nothing and I happened to swipe my legs. And I swiped off a tick. It was crawling up my leg. Had I not happened to have swiped my leg I don't know what would have happened.
It was smallish, brown, with a white spot. It sort of had another really small white spot above that one. I killed it just in case. But, it scares me when I find one on me because you never know if it has Lyme or not.
And if it had bitten me would I have gotten it. So, that is scary. I checked all over to make sure that was the only one and I am so glad I just happened to swipe my leg and get that tick, because I hadn't noticed it.
Scary stuff.
Well, that is the second tick I have seen this year.
Has anyone else found a tick on them or a pet?
Scary and interesting.

Wow, I'm glad you found it before it got a 'hold' on you!
I stay inside most of the time so I haven't seen any ticks lately. Honestly, I only remember seeing one tick my whole life and that was on a fellow campfire girl when I was a junior high kid.
Keep sharp and don't let these little disgusting insects get you!

I've had hundreds of tick bites. They never freaked me out when I was a kid because back then no one knew that they could cause disease!!!
Do NOT kill the ticks with your fingernails, OK!!? And wash you hands thoroughly after handling them.

DO NOT HANDLE TICKS. DON'T KILL THE TICKS WITH YOUR HANDS. IF YOU SWIPE ONE OFF YOURSELF, KICK IT OFF THE PORCH IF YOU MUST, BUT NEVER HANDLE TICKS.
YOU CAN GET INFECTED BY HANDLING TICKS!!!
And you have enough problems already, right?
So don't make us nervous by touching ticks. Leave them alone. Killing one isn't going to make the difference. If there's one, there's a lot more than that around.
The best thing that's come of this is that you have now seen with your own eyes that you live in a tick-endemic area. That's good ammo for your parents ITO a real concern about Lyme.
Sounds like a lonestar tick? Anyone?

I'll admit, I never liked ticks before....
I hate them now.

Sure sounds like the lone star tick to me. Lone star is responsible for a illness named as Lone Stari, which is a lyme-like illness.

Ive found 5 tic's on me this year. Ann has gotten 4-5 too,just saterday mowing the lawn for 40 mins. came in and had 3 on her.
My Tour Bus Mech. up in Wisconsin has said every time he go's out side,he's got 2-3 on him. Just in the yard, or out to get the mail.
ThAre bad here in Mo. but you folks realy be carefull in "Sconsin".....!
Ann walked out the back door to water her cherry tommatow's,and comming back in had one headin north up her leg.
Im Darn-Neer Scared-To-Death,to go out side this year. Ive neaver seen em this bad in the mow'ed yards.

Oh no! I never TOUCH ticks at all!!! I swiped it with my hands but didn't even feel it. I saw it fall on the porch when I did swipe my legs.
I got a stick and started poking at it! And I looked at it really good. But at least that is one down! You know, that tick may have had Lyme and could have ended up on someone else.
I saw the picture of the lone start ick and it looked very similar. The white spot mostly. And the tick I saw was missing a leg on one side! I noted the legs, and color and everything so I could describe it here and look at the pictures.
But, I would NEVER touch one! I have always been grossed out by them. I have had hundreds of tick bites as well. I can remember finding them on me all the time when I was little. It freaked me out and I flushed them, but I never thought anything about it til now.
I have ALWAYS been an outside person. I used to HATE being inside any. Even to sleep. I loved the outdoors, but now I am opposite. I never feel like going outside. I am just uninterested now.
And I never feel up to doing anything. Seems like when I do fun stuff I used to I feel worse than doing nothing.
Well, at least it didn't get me!
