kevin,

this is a TRUE story; my brother's wife died at age 40 of EARLY-ONSET Alzheimer's after having this 8-14 years!!

took almost 5 months for mayo clinic, minn. to finish her complete body autopsy...yes, AD!

however, i'm sure LYME disease was never thought about, and we know mayo clinic knows nothing about CHRONIC LYME.

kevin, here's a simple test i learned at a AD conference.

draw a circle, now put all the numbers on it like a CLOCK!

how does it look? super small; your numbers are not in NORMAL places? more on left or right side than the other?

if it is as the above paragraph, get to a NEUROLOGIST ASAP; have them do further testing.

my best to you on getting an accurate diagnosis and treatment! [group hug] [kiss] [group hug]

Kevin, at age 30 I was going into dementia from Lyme disease. I could no longer remember my childs name. I could no longer drive or cook because I was not safe.

Yes Lyme can be misdiagnsoed as Alzheimers.

Lyme can manifest identically.

Get a good LLMD and get better-
best wishes,
Sarah

PET scans can show lesions that may appear to be alzheimers... buy the book Coping with Lyme... and go see a LLMD.

Kevin,
My father was misdiagnosed Alzheimer's in his 70s, but when he was 81 yrs old, a LLMD in New Jersey said it was Lyme disease.

Concerning patients with Alzhiemer's type symptoms -
he said that he had found chronic Lyme patients had lesions on an MRI that looked like lesions of an Alzheimer's patient.

I'm not a dr, but if you have Lyme antibodies and symptoms and you're only 35, then it sounds like you've been misdiagnosed Alzheimer's, too.

What a tragedy when this happens and the patient does not suspect Lyme.
With Lyme disease, there is hope.
With Alzheimer's, there's no treatment.

About 20 yrs ago when I researched Alzheimer's, I read that it was a diagnosis of exclusion.
A list of 10 or 12 possible illnesses did NOT include Lyme disease.
Even if LD was on the list, I would estimate that almost all drs would use the ELISA to check for LD. We know what the result would be with that.....Negative test - misdiagnosis!

My advice: find a Lyme Literate Med Dr (LLMD) - ASAP.

Resources to find a LLMD:
Go to "Seeking a Dr" here on LymeNet. Put your location in the title.
On the left, click "Support Groups" & check with those in your state and surrounding states.

What test showed Lyme antibodies?
Since you have symptoms, did your dr consider a diagnosis of Lyme?

Look at the trailer on an upcoming documentary called, "under out skin,"

A young man was thought to have AD as well, but it was lyme disease.
