Are there any avid field researchers out there?

Can you give me any advice on protecting from my neck up? I use Premrethrin on my clothes, tuck my pants in my socks, long sleeve shirts etc, but want to protect my neck and head.

I have really thick hair and it is impossible to see any nymphs once they have found their way to my scalp.

Unfortunately, as part of my job, I spend a lot of time in thick brushy areas. It is unavoidable.

Thanks! Everyone has been so wonderful.

White French Foreign Legion hats are my favorite but very hard to find. Went all the way to Epcot to the Morocco Pavilion (three different years) and couldn't ever find one. Argh!

There are bug netting type things you can put over your whole head.

I am a field researcher in MD and got Lymes last summer. No one that works with me uses protection. I had moved here from TX and did not know about Lymes. Anyway, what I do now is I buy many shirts at the thrift stores-long sleeve, white, buttons at the wrist, bandanas, hats and long socks. I get light weight shirts. I pull my hair up and put it under a hat. I use deet only on my neck are (where I was bit before) and use a bandana over it (helps with the hot) Tuck my jeans into socks and spray around that area. When I get in I immediately do a check and then clean the deet off of my neck area.

Oh Yeah! Take vitimin B1 daily. Its a trick of the trade. It makes humans emit an odor that the ticks don't like but humans can't smell. Other than that just try to avoid high grass areas, standing under trees (we use machette's to get to where we need to go) That is about all you can do. Hat is very important. Good luck.
