Hi everyone, I have recently been diagnosed after being sick on and off for the last 2 years. I have the distinction of working in a lab, and one of the organisms I work with is, yep, Borrelia burgdoferi. I am pretty worried now that I have this and have read a lot of sad stories on the internet. My question is: Am I doomed having this or does it get any better?

WElcome...no, you're not doomed as long as you get adequate treatment ASAP.

Thanks for you reply! I had an incident in the lab in 2001 when I had a live sample sent down for me to do borrelia counts on the microscope. The bozo that sent the sample down did not take the necessary precautions and screw the lid on tight. I retrieved the sample from the cooler and it had leaked all over. My nare hands came in contact with the sample and it took 15 minutes until I realized the liquid was not condensation but the sample. At the time I had a small cut on my hand that was not totally healed. I did not get sick until I had sinus surgery in 2005. I just got diagnosed in march of this year.

hmmmm, sounds possible. if you can transmit this stuff through sex, then surely working in a lab puts you at great risk.

i don't know much about the testing, but others can tell you what tests you need to have done.

i'd go ahead and plan on getting a LLMD and treatment just in case. better safe than sorry.

i hope you don't have it.

I got a lone star tick on my foot while visiting just don, one of our members in Pierce, NE. You don't have to be in a lab to get infected there.(I got the tick off of my epidermis long before it had a chance to bite)

You are not doomed but you definately don't have an easy road to travel now.

Mine went into remission and was feeling fine. However, mine did come back. But there are some who have gone and stayed in remission, so it can be done.

Don't fret. Take action, sooner than later!

The researcher who discovered Bb, Willy Burgdorfer, contracted Lyme disease by splashing infected mouse urine in his eye- or so the story goes...!!!
