I have high IgG levels for EBV and HHV-6. I recently started valcyte, an anti-viral drug.

yes, to your question.
feb. 1970 i was dx with mono but it was later called EBV.
my total body tests last year verified i had 3 strains of EBV, HHV-6, simplex herpes, and lyme but no-coinfections
i'll have to go read timaca's link; i've NOT been treated for my virus!
since i could NOT read the web site, i'm copying here the short text: **************************
person asked question about EBV and neuropathy.... quoted...
Yes, EBV can cause neurological symptoms which may develop up to several months following the initial infection.
EBV Symptoms may include:
meningitis,
ataxia (difficulty with coordination and walking like drunk),
various cranial nerve problems,
polyradiculopathy (numbness and tingling sensations, weakness)
and a guillian barre syndrome (potentially the most serious because it can lead to progressive weakness and sensory changes).
Muscle cramps have been described but only in the thoracolumbar region (low back region).
It sound as if you may have symptoms of a neuropathy (numbness and tingling) however, with facial symptoms, you may have a cranial nerve involved as well.
In general, the chance of improvement is favorable.
If you have not been evaluated by a neurologist, I would suggest that you do so.
If you are interested in getting an evaluation by a neurologist at CCF, call 1-800-CCF-CARE. Ask for the neurology appointments secretary.
I do not know of any web sites that would provide you with information. Posted by Jazzyfizzle (Member # 12896) on :
I tested high for EBV also and my Neurologist has me on anti-virals. Recently they one doctor stated he believes I have MS, and Tory suggested I look into Lyme. I haven't been diagnosed with the Lyme yet but it sure fits the bill.

Jazzy~ It would be a good idea for you to be tested for HHV-6 too, since it is often high when EBV is elevated. see www.hhv-6foundation.org
If the HHV-6 is elevated too, you would need valcyte (an anti-viral drug), as valtrex is not effective against it.

Hi Cheezhead! I was dxed with EBV first in 1989, with levels so high that the dr said I'd never work again and he wanted me to start on meds to get me up in the morning (uppers) and meds to get me to sleep at night(downers). I told him right there - I don't think so!!. My 1st dx with LD was in 1999 and now I've been dxed with Masters Disease. I so hope that one day we all can get over so much of this life-altering stuff! Yes Cheezhead early on I also tested highly positive for Epstein Barr. My doc called it lyme on first appt. Put me on heavy abx, many combos and changed it around for 2 months.
He decided that maybe it wasn't lyme since I was not improving on abx. Tested for EBV and found results which he believed that was the answer. That explained why abx wasn't curing me. So he hoped.
Two months later (no abx for EBV) and all these new sx occuring and we realized it was lyme all along. 45 symptoms by then and back on abx.
I don't know if lyme makes EBV test look positive or if EBV is just another virus added to the mix.
