I was diagnosed with positive Lyme Igenex 2 months ago. I just don't know that much about this. I was told I had CFIDS about 5 years ago. I have a bunch of other viruses - Epstein Barr, HHV-6.
(1) I was referred to a lyme literate doctor in Charlotte and made an appointment. I drove 5 hours two days ago only to find his office empty, he was depressed - his medical license is totally limited. He is going to try to work through my doctor here, but it is up to her to give me the meds. Any suggestions on what next? I am in Atlanta. Does anyone know the closest very good lyme doctor? He said I need 50 days of IV therapy. Will I be able to work during the IV therapy or will I feel too terrible, that is assuming I can get the therapy? Is this worth flying to CA for? I hear there is a law that protects doctors against these sort of things. Where can I go? I feel like I have a poison and can't get the anecdote.
(2) Why do I have all of these other viruses and bacteria? Is this common with Lyme or is there just something completely wrong with my immune system?
(3) I just had a baby. I am worried I may have transmitted it to her. Does anyone know how likely this might be or what I should do? She seems healthy now, of course I am freaked out because I love her so much and I am in such pain.
(4) What are my chances of recovery or at least feeling decent again? Gosh, I will just take feeling decent. I think I've had this for at least 25 years (I grew up in MN), but it wasn't bad until after the birth of my baby - at age 36. Dr. J in Charlotte, well-known Lyme doctor, says his patients have an 80-90% recovery rate when they receive the right treatment. Does this sound right?

I have heard great things about Dr. J. I know he is working under major restrictions, but he is extremely smart and caring.
1) There is a forum on the board for seeking doctors. You can post in there for a doctor near you. There are limited doctors in the SE, unfortunately.
2) These viruses are very common. There is nothing wrong with your system that caused you to have the viruses. But, Lyme does put tremendous stress on the immune system so common viruses may cause problems in you while htey won't in other people. Think of it as Lyme being the straw that breaks the camel's back.
3) The best pediatric LLMD is Dr. J in Connecticut. He might be able to help with a phone consult in what to look for in your baby.
4) Chances of recovery are very good if you get the proper treatment. But it won't be easy. Many people find they go into remission, and don't completely get cured. But you can see really major improvements.

If your doctor in Atlanta will work with Dr. J, I would do it, I hear he's very good. Check out this video, you will then understand somewhat what our LLMD's are going through. http://www.openeyepictures.com/underourskin/index.html
Dr. J is on the video. It is well-worth downloading the proper player if you don't have it.
If you can't get your doctor to work with Dr. J, then I can PM you my doctor's info ... he's in NY ... I fly there from Ohio.
