Does anyone know what happens when the 18 months are up? I have been on it 13 months, so only have 5 more months?
I know if i get approved for SSI it will be extended, but i doubt that will happen, i have an outside agency handling it and they are giving me the run around.
thanks

I think you are then dropped. Happened to us with dental insurance.

After 18 months, they no longer need to allow you to buy the insurance. Yes, it sucks.

maybe i should stand on the corner and collect money for my health care fund. Posted by LPurdy1040 (Member # 6543) on :
When I was on cobra and my time was getting close to running out, they gave me the option of keeping it but my monthly premium would of went up by an additional $180.00. That has been quite a few years ago so things may have changed. But I would at least inquire about that.
Sending you lots of hugs Linda

They don't legally have to do that, but nothing stops them from offering to. You can inquire.
You can also try to get insurance on the individual market. Unfortunately, if it's not group insurance then most states allow the insurance to refuse to cover preexisting conditions. And most companies will refuse to give insurance to somebody who is already sick.
