Angel Food partners with churches and community organizations throughout the country to help distribute food to those in need. For $25.00* you can receive a box of food containing both fresh and frozen items. Their food items are first quality. No seconds or out-of-date items.
Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month.
There are no income requirements to place an order.
You can order the food boxes by e-mail, phone, or in person. Angel Food has host sites in 34? states now, but are expanding as additional host sites volunteer.
Angel Food delivers to host sites only. It may be helpful to contact the coordinator of your host site if you need home delivery. The site coordinator may know a volunteer willing to make a delivery.
Angel Food states, "Our food is ``restaurant grade'' meats, frozen vegetables, fruits, dairy products, etc. which we acquire through our involvement with only the best producers/vendors of high quality, ``name brand'' foods. Never ``seconds'' or ``day old'' type products are involved."

I am a satisfied customer with no financial interest in this company....except to save money on our groceries. This is convenient, cheap, and saves my time and energy. I am glad many meat selections are packaged in 4 oz portions. It's easy to watch what I eat with their portion sizes.

A VERY needed resource for folks here!!
I just checked out the site and had limited delivery sites for the three states I checked out,,nothing close to where people here live,,,BUT if you do,,,check this out.
Would be COOL to have it shipped to you,,,dont think thats how it works,,,I understood you have to pick up from delivery sites.
Doesnt sound TOO hard to convince a local church to do this tho!! Sounds like the BEST solution for you needy folks,,,have your church be a new delivery point!!
I would do this in a heart beat,,,groceries are high cost items any more!! There ARE others with your same needs!!since being --just don--

I know after Katrina, the Southern Baptist Ministry put together an incredible
Effort to provide for us folks.
You could go once a day and pick up a box of food, diapers, deoderant, etc.
We only went once a week, but it was definitely a highlight in our day.
Opening the boxes of food was like a treasure hunt.
However, the people who were there, who would hold your hand and pray for and with you
Were the most beneficial for those of us reeling in shock.
I really need to give back as soon as we get our feet on the ground.
Even just pick a family who really needs help in our area, or on Lymenet.
Hugs,
Geneal

Tracybillings,
I would have to take a list with exact items to the store to see what the real value is. Just knowing how high groceries are these days and seeing the list,,,makes me believe this is a great value.
IF you want to see the menu for each month,,,you can go to their web site and click on menu for that month.
It said you CAN buy more than one box too. so like 3-4 boxes would get some families thru a month,,,depending on family size. IF your talking a 1 person household it would really go a long way to a months worth!! least a couple weeks!!
I spent 200 bucks today for about a months worth of stuff JUST for myself. If I can fix it,I like it, I buy it!!
It also said their are aux. packages that you can buy AFTER you buy the main box. Sounds like a pretty good deal for all meat selections,,,like I say,,,I am worlds worst shopper. I dont BUY meat so cant tell what price is GOOD!! My freezer is always full of better meat than I can buy!!What the quality of purchased meat is,,,to be determined by experience!!
Thats the LITTLE I know of this plan!!being --just don--

Just another thought on food. There are commodity places here I know that the low income people can get good food from,,dont know price or particulars,,,I was THINKING they were free!!
I do know they are income based so you have to PROVE your need. But it IS a great resource . I didnt think I qualified so I never checked into the program further.
Hope somebody with MORE experience and knowledge chimes in with better info. Does this program exist where YOU live?? I do know you are REQUIRED to take items that you dont want,to get what you do eat regularly!!
I do know somebody that is on this program so maybe I can get MORE info if no one else knows further!! Surely somebody does here!!--just don--

Are you saying this group gives you (for instance) $50 worth of food for $25 or are you saying they'll give you $25 worth of food for $25 and they're a good group to buy from and nsupport.
You get MORE than you pay for. Check the site that hshbmom gave above. It lists what you get for the $25.

I phoned the church in my area that sponsors the program here.
The woman in the office said she would mail me a brochure to sign up for the November program.
When I asked about the food, she said it is government surplus. The website lists it as "restaurant quality."
From their site: Angel Food Ministries gives churches and organizations an effective outreach to the community to meet real needs in a genuine way -- often times drawing new participants and visitors into the mission at hand.
Sample Menu: (1) 4 lb. IQF Leg Quarters (1) 24 oz. Beef Back Ribs (1) 1 lb. 80/20 Lean Ground Beef (1) 2 lb. Breaded Chicken Tenders (4) 6 oz. Bone in Pork Chops (1) 1 lb. Ground Turkey (1) 18 oz. Stuffed Manicotti (Cheese) (1) 12 oz. Smoked Sausage (1) Betty Crocker Seasoned Potatoes (1) 7 oz. Cheeseburger Dinner (1) 16 oz. Green Beans (1) 16 oz. Baby Carrots (1) 2 lb. Onions (1) 1 lb. Pinto Beans (1) 1 lb. Rice (1) 7 oz. Blueberry Muffin Mix (1) 10 ct. Homestyle Waffles (1) Dessert Item
Angel Food is available in a quantity that can fit into a medium-sized box at $25 per unit ($30 in California and New Mexico, due to transportation costs, $28 in Kansas, Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee).
Each month's menu is different than the previous month and consists of both fresh and frozen items with an average retail value of approximately $50.
Comparison shopping has been done across the country in various communities using a wide range of retail grocery stores and has resulted in the same food items costing from between $42 and $78.
Generally, one unit of food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month.
The food is all the same high quality one could purchase at a grocery store.
There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe.
Also offered are specialty boxes such as steaks, chicken and pork. Many participants in this bonus program appreciate the expanded choices.
Additionally, there is no limit to the number of units or bonus foods an individual can receive, and there are no applications to complete or qualifications to which participants must adhere.
