I posted this on "medical questions" board too...

I had my initial appointment with Dr. J in SC last Friday (April 11) but was disappointed that he'd charge $2000 a month for contract if I want to do IV treatment with him. This fee doesn't include any IV abx and medical supplies...

I asked if Dr. J could prescribe IV abx and I'd work with my local doctor to monitor me, of course I'd pay Dr. J any phone consult fee if I have any questions or need additional help, and Dr. J said NO...My insurance co. covers a portion of IV abx and supplies, but right now I don't know what IV abx to use

How have you handled this with Dr J if you are on IV treatment with him?

Thanks a lot!!!

Is this the Dr. J. that used to be in N.C. If so, I could understand him saying NO. He has been burned badly.

A very well known llmd, Dr. P in Connecticut, once told me that I.V. is highly overrated, and that orals could accomplish the same thing.

Having been treated for five years now, I can say that yes, that is true in most cases.

I did go the I.V. route for 5 months in the beginning, but it is not the answer in a bottle.

I'm thinking you've done orals for awhile? Are you new to Dr. J? He was very aggressive when my family went to him 2 years ago in N.C. His program with orals would be very effective.

I hope you find some answers. I understand how frustrating getting appropriate treatment is.

I know nothing about Dr. J. All I can tell you is that all my LLMD did was write a script on a regular ole script pad for IV Rocephin.

Then her office set up the home infusion connection. I paid nothing extra , not did I have to pay any upfront contract fee.

LLMD just renewed the script month by month, for 8 months, until we both felt I had benefited as much as I could.

Any charges for IV came through infusion company-and they must have accepted insurance payments as payment in full because I have yet to receive a bill from them-and it has been a while.

Just thought I would share this for comparison's sake.

I am going to Dr J on May 6. I wanted to see if he can help but i am not sure i can trust someone who is charging a contract fee if that is what it is. I am hoping he can help and will keep an open mind. It is already costing me more than what i can afford to go see him since there is no insurance for him. I cannot find a doctor that can do the IV. I had one do it for two weeks and started feeling better but he quit and the rest say there liscence will not allow this. I am in the same boat as you. Keep me up to date and i will do the same.
