My friends have offically labeled me boring. You wouldn't think what foods I chose to eat would affect others so much. I never realized how much food and drink is so much part of a social experience.
My diet is so squeaky clean, taking probiotics, Diflucan, eating yogurt, wearing yogurt yet I caved to social pressures yesterday and had two bites of phyllo pastry and now I have a yeast infection.
I find the diet to be the most isolating factor. I just felt like venting with others who relate.

I can definitely relate since I was finding that cheating ever so slightly would also send yeast my way and once you cross that line, it's tough to get rid of.
My diet has been so squeeky clean that I'm consistently told that no one else would ever really stick to a diet that horrid, but I guess when you get as sick as we do, you will do anything.
I do find that some antibiotics are more forgiving than others, but basically I'm pretty strict.

I agree. My diet is a source of contention when I visit the inlaws and I usually cave out of desperation to find something to eat.
Eating out is even worse.
Hubby is not always delighted when I say "I can't eat there."
I'm gluten-free, dairy-free, and I do food combining. Give me salads and protein and vegetables. That's it!
Now really, why do others think that is so strange? We are eating to be as healthy as is possible.

Ralph.. At your suggestion, I purchased that book. It's excellent!
I haven't finished it yet, though!! Posted by cantgiveupyet (Member # 8165) on :
I can relate to this. I often say, if only I could eat normally, i could atleast go out and meet friends, even if I didnt drink.
But i look like an ethiopian again, so going out and not eating, im sure would make some jump to conclusions.
I have interstitial cystitis, so I cant eat a lot of foods.
I am tolerating some carbs more now. I have two places i can go out to eat that dont affect my bladder or yeast. But, they arent really places my friends would want to hang.

It's super hard, I agree.
I fell off the wagon this weekend - it was my parents' 29th anniversary. I had cake.
We'll see what happens next. My stomach is not happy.
But boy, was that cake gooooood! Posted by Geneal (Member # 10375) on :
I find it harder to field the nasty comments when ordering salad and meat only.
"You can't be on a diet. Your too skinny as it is!"
"Are you sure your aren't bullemic or anorexic?"
Sigh.
I have to admit that I do better on a strict diet.
However, there is a rebel in me that every once in a while demands sugar!
Just a little. Yes I pay for it.
Yes......for me it is worth it just to do something I really, really want.
I am fully prepared to suffer the consequences.
Hugs,
Geneal

I'm afraid that is what I will be getting this summer when visiting family in Texas.
I've lost 25 lbs and am now officially thin [in my book!]. I may lose more by the time I get there.
I am having gut problems, but am also doing the food combining and no sugar. It drops weight amazingly well.
But I was happier with my body about 5-10 lbs ago!!

2 words for eating out:
Golden Corral.
I have given up trying to please myself and everyone else. At the Corral, you can pick what you want, and if my son wants to eat 3 desserts, so be it!
I finally figured out that I can get the salad @ the salad bar, and go to the grill part and get a steak, and cut it up and put it on my salad! Awesome!

Yes, I prefer that or a cafeteria when available. But some Golden Corrals don't have the steak or grilled chicken.
It's hard to find meats that are truly gluten-free.
When traveling, I've found that some places like this are good and some are not so clean!

Do you all hold on to that small light of hope that says, "You will be able to eat normal soon..."
I think this is the only way I get through my boring meals everyday.(gluten, dairy, sugar, cafine, alcohol, and fun free)Eating out is the worst!
I have lost 45 lbs in the last year and can't wait to get back into my "big" clothes again. Everyone else sees size 4 as a positive-I see tired, hungry bones...It is hard to explain to others.
I don't have a chance to cheat- my kids jump all over me if they think I'm even thinking about it. "You have to get better, Mom!" they guilt into me. I don't tell them I dream of cheesecake and chocolate shakes

I dont really have friends and i am really to sick to "hang out" anyway
but i am like cantgiveup really thin now .. and basically like lymetoo in diet - meat and veggies (which is horrible for my gastroparesis so sometimes i cant eat to much of anything)
when people look at me like "will someone please feed that girl" ... you know "that" look... i just tell them i have to eat this way do to various health issues from lyme disease.
My family understands that i need to eat this insane diet but they still think it is awful that i have to and they could never do it but like tdtid said

Maybe I can be a beacon of hope in this world of bland diets.
First, a few specialty companies make baking mixes and pre-made goodies that are gluten and sugar free.
They are also free of other allergens.
These are:
Dixie Diners' Club (Dixie Carb Counters')- The fudge and cakes are great!
Celia's Gourmet
Sweet Deliverance
These can all be found online.
So far, I have been able to eat everything I have ordered.
They are indulgent, but don't cause a yeast infection.
Just be careful about Dixie, as they also sell products that are not gluten free and/or are not sugar free.
The safe products will be labeled.
I am still looking for other brands, as I am sure they exist.
Also, if you are well enough to go out, a friend tipped me off that Outback, Bonefish Grill, Maggiano's, and P.F. Chang's all have gluten free menus.
I have called to confirm, and all of the chains in every state do this.
Costal Flats also has a gluten free menu.
These restaurants are great, since many of the items are also low sugar or sugar free.
It is really nice to go out with people and just order off the menu, without making crazy substitutions.
I sincerely hope this helps everyone feel a little more satisfied!

Thanks Blue - I am always looking for new sugar free foods
Also there is a sugar free bakery in NYC called Babycakes that seems amazing - many sugar and gluten free items. They will deliver anywhere for a very very high price...Still, it's fun to look at their menu. It makes me smile
