My son will do another round of abx for this summer at least.

He is tired, anxious, and cranky.

He is 14...and rotating computer, wii,
and playstation.

He will read and were working on keeping
the books coming.

For a time, he was so so sick that being on
"screens" all day was somewhat appropriate
as he couldn't walk much and was in a lot
of pain. He is much better and I am afraid
his brain will rot with much more of this.

My daughter and I are also sick, so I am not
brimming with energy to entertain!

Help!

Are you looking for activities outside of the house or things he can do at home that are more productive than Wii etc...

What is he interested in? What subjects or books?

Dont they still have educational computer games?...

they did when i was a kid but i am old (anyone remember oregon trail , and that one u had to build the railroad across the us... and where in the world is carmen sandiago?)... told u i am old [Big Grin] maybe they have some out now.

I would find out his interests and start a hobby that is compatabile with how severe his symptoms are, art - drawing, painting, clay, (now u can veiw gallergies on line even)... craft stores have alot of ideas. Walmart even sells some supplies too.

If science maybe he could identify bugs and mount them - i am sure there are lots of bug websites too.

If he likes to build things - making models , they sell kits at different levels for planes, cars etc.

coin collecting - i did this for a time when i was a kid - but it might be outdated ... i know i am [Smile]

Games - like board or card games ... do kids still play them ? [Smile]

- Just a few thoughts [Smile]

Azure all of your suggestions are on the money, we have used them ourselves.

What I have found the hardest on children sick with lyme, especially young teens, is the isolation from peers.

I also understand feeling ill yourself and how hard it is to have other children visit.

The advantage you have now that your son is 14 is that he and a buddy won't need your constant supervision for a play date.

Finding a friend that enjoys the same games or hobbies would keep him connected to some peers. Not a group, that may be too much for you, but a one on one visit with a friend.

Even when my daughter was in a lot of pain, she still made visits to a few friends houses. They would sit and talk, play games, just "hang out". Even if it was for a short time, it lifted her spirits to get out of the house.

Swimming is great, low impact, keeps the body cool and is some excercise.

Summer can be a frustrating time for parents with lyme. We don't feel well, and it is difficult to make plans when you don't know how you will be feeling on any given day. Not all friends understand what we go through, I have had many times when I should have cancelled and did not because I didn't want to disappoint anyone.

Pacing yourself and your energy is important. Don't forget to take care of your needs too.

My children are allowed to sleep as much as they need in the summer. No visitors are permitted before 1pm. We have a summer wish list of activities, games or outings that everyone adds to. With my teens, "sleep" is usually number one on this list. We tackle the list as best we can. If we are having a good day or week, we then have a list to refer to, most of what we do is spur of the moment.

Wishing you a sunny and healthy summer season...
