I had an appointment with my pain specialist on Friday. I used to go to another doc from the same clinic but he no longer works there. He was very understanding. The new doc is not at all.
Before anyone judges my use of narcotic pain meds I would like to clarify. I tried all other possibilities and nothing worked. I don't want to be on narcotics, but the pain is INTOLERABLE.
So I went to the pain doctor and he says, "You're really young to have this kind of pain. What's wrong with you again?" I told him I have Chronic Lyme Disease and he dismissed it as nonsense!
I have been on methadone 10 mg for ten months now and even that barely touches my pain, and he told me he doesn't think my diagnosis warrants that level of pain relief. He prescribed the Fentanyl patch instead.
The patch is nowhere near the strength of methadone so I doubt it will even touch my pain. I am so scared. I've gone through this pain without relief and I don't want to ever feel that again.
I am still waiting on my appointment with the LLMD and I'm going to another pain clinic soon but I am still so scared. I hate that these ducks have the ability to choose whether I suffer or not.
Sorry to be so negative...I know a lot of you are going through the same thing. It really helps to know I can share what I'm going through without being sneered at. I just feel so helpless.
Thanks for listening to my ranting. I almost forgot...this one qualifies for the alligator pit!

I am really sorry that you were treated like that. Sadly young people can and do have "that kind of pain". I'd like to punch him in the nose!I will be praying for you during the wait to get to llmd. kpa

What a nerd. Actually way worse than a nerd. He's stupid.
I do hope you fare better with the next pain clinic.
Keep us posted! Will be praying for you too. Posted by ForestNymph (Member # 15109) on :
Thanks guys for your support. Everything worked out. The new pain clinic was so much more professional and they were understanding about Lyme Disease. I was amazed.
It's such a relief. I actually ran out of pain medication this morning so when I went to my appointment I was in agony and I am so grateful to have relief again.
Thanks again for being here for me.

YEA!! Thank goodness!!!
You should write a letter to the first place and tell them what you thought of their clinic!!!
Send them some papers on Lyme and pain. How about the one that says that the pain of lyme can be more severe than post-operative pain?!
And let them know that you found a clinic that was willing to help you. [You decide if you want to name the clinic or not.]
"If treated early and aggressively, Lyme disease is curable. When left untreated or inadequately treated, Lyme disease can progress into a devastating and disabling multi-systemic illness often marked by severe neurological problems and debilitating pain. In fact, according to the National Institutes of Health, ``patients with persistent Lyme disease suffer physical disability equivalent to that of multiple sclerosis, severe pain equivalent to post-operative pain, and profound fatigue similar to congestive heart failure''. It is estimated that 10-15 percent of Lyme disease cases will develop into persistent late-stage neurological disease."

What does your diagnosis have to do with your level of pain? A doctor working at a pain clinic should know better than to spout such crap.

LadyCakes,
I know...and then he inferred that I wasn't really in as much pain as I claim to be. Oh well, at least we ended up with a much better pain clinic and doctor.
