My lyme doc recommended an ion spa to help me detox since I do not have a bathtub to soak in epsom salts with.
I had my first session today.
The above pictures is exactly what the water looked like for me too.
It was quite a shocker.
It looked like something I should not be soaking my feet in.
Yet, the water looked like that because of my feet.
Honestly, my feet were clean when I put them in the water.
Don't quite understand this but am trying to do some research on it.
Also wondering how long it will take for the water to be clear.
I am currently doing a half of an hour every other day.
I had hoped to start earlier as I received the foot bath about 2 weeks ago.
But, I was not able to read the directions and had a set back.
My brain finally cleared up enough I could figure things out.
I also was slouching as I have difficulty sitting upright for long.
So, it was a weird feeling to look at it half way through and see the water orange with black particles in it.
And then again at the end and not be able to see my feet because of the black water.
When I emptied the bin out, the water was clear.
It was all the black particles that made it look black.
I put 1/4 tsp of salt in. I assume something attaches to the salt with the ion process.

OK. I copied and pasted this from the web site. But, I still want to know more.
I would like to know why all the black particles.
And, will I feel better??
When an ionic footbath array begins the process it attempts to raise the pH of the water from an acidic state to a more alkaline state
(acidic items- coca cola, coffee, pesticides--
alkaline items-celery, most herbs, and spirulina).
pH (potential of hydrogen) is a measurement of the concentration of hydrogen Ions in a solution.
The heightened alkalinity of the footbath interacts with the newly soluble items which carry an acidic tendency and ``neutralizes'' them in the bath.
This is similar to pet odor removers
[urine is quite acidic,
and the odor product is quite alkaline-
they combine and move the wet spot back toward a balanced pH
(7.0 is balance between the two)].
Or like baking soda in a refrigerator,
the soda is very alkaline so,
the smelly oxidative releases of the food breaking down can be absorbed,
or ``neutralized'' by the soda.
This is a simplistic version of the process, with all the above factors involved being variables,
each session becomes unique to the location and to the person.
This overview is a very basic attempt to explain complex, chemical and atomic level reactions that occur in an ionic footbath.
If you are more curious, here is a link and there is a wealth of information out on the internet and at your local library about these processes.

Mon pm: IOnic spa treatment 2nd time. I could see my feet this time, but there still was a lot of gunk in the water.
I did the first treatment Sat.
On Sunday I was able to put the dishes in the dishwaser and go for a 15 min walk in the woods.
Time will tell if there is relationship between the foot spa detox and my energy level.
I have not read the info yet or know what the info says how this will help.
All I know right now is I am detoxing a lot of gunk Lots of particles in the water and it looks organish brown.

I also wanted to add that Monday night I did not get much sleep.
Shortly after I fell asleep my dog started barking and woke me up.
She rarely does this.
I feel back to sleep and then I had police at my door knocking very loudly.
It seems one of the tenants here who have Alzheimers had wondered off.
I later learned they did find her in someone's apartment.
Since it was the middle of the night, I am wondering if that person knew she was there.
I am guessing not or the police would not have been going door to door.
They also had a search and rescue dog with them.
They put a lock high up on the inside of the door so no one can get out without the key.
Can you imagine trying to get out of your aparment and not being able to.
I wonder how they are going to explain that to her.
She does have a husband who is in his late 80's. He does not have the patience to handle this full time.
Nor does he have the health. Insurance is not co operating.
I sure hope he gets help soon.
I also had left a note on the door fro the housekeeper telling her I did not get sleep last night and left a list of things for her to do in that hour she is here.
I went to my bedroom and hoped to get some sleep. I heard her come in. I was surprised, but glad Rosie did not bark.
I turned on a teaching on the computer and finally fell asleep.
She knocked on my bedroom door and then came in and woke me up. She wanted my signature on a piece of paper to show that she had been here.
I was not able to sign my name but put a squiggly line on the paper.
I do not like people who distrub my sleep.
She had other tenants to go to here today. She could have come back at the end of the day for my signature.

Sorry, got off the track. The point was that I was very weak today and needed to stay down most of the day due to not getting my rest.
So, I need to factor that in too. It usually takes me a couple of nights sleep to do better.
I would say session two was between the orange and black picture.

Hi there Kam,
Great minds think alike! I've had the Ionic footbaths done recently too.
One thing I learned though is that I didn't feel great after about 5 treatments.
Also the gal that did mine, kept asking if I slept really well after my footbaths, which I never did.
Well, after seeing my naturalpath and a chiropractor that's using the B.E.S.T. technique on me, they mentioned that I have to be careful with the footbaths due to my several mineral/vitamin deficiencies.
The color of the water is indicitive of what is being pulled out from where. I just can't remember what those were.
Mine were all the yellowish, foamy with red specks which meant urinary tract with yeast and blood clot material.
The lighter the footbaths become the better you're getting.
I'll have another one done but have to make sure I'm up on my minerals.

Right back attcha Akinwolf.
Thanks for the feedback.
I do not find myself sleeping afterwards either.
Hopefully, I will find what it means when it is brownish/black particles that are so many it looks like the water is black.

Thanks to akinwolf I went back to the site and clicke on color chart.
It looks like liver and heavy metals.
I took excedrin extra strength for years and have heard it is not good for the liver or kidney's, etc.
Trying to back off of it but still take it when it is better to take it than be in pain or have the inflamed brain thing going.
The brown was tobaco and something else.
I have never smoked but lived in LA County at the time the air quality was the same as smoking two packs of cigaretts a day.
That was according to a professor I had in college. He was not able to get a clean lung from the morgue to show us.
I moved out of the area shortly after that. But, was raised in LA County.
I recalled when I moved by the coast I just kept looking up at the blue sky. I couldn't get over it.
LA County is much better now when I go to visit.

I also recall touching mercury in the past before I knew it was not a good thing to do.
I can still recall what it was like and how strange it was to rub it between my fingers.
I also helped my dad clean motorcycle parts in gas when I was growing up. No gloves. Just bare hands and a toothbrush.

This doesn't have to do with the ion spa...I think.
But, I was just thinking that several things were going on at work during the time several of us came down sick:
1. They were digging up the dirt to add building for the medical center.
....valley fever is a common illness in that area
2. They closed down two yards due to bartonella/cat scratch fever or so I heard. I was out sick by then
3. I had a student with a bite on his leg with a ring around it. I told him it was probably a spider bite and medical could do nothing.
I called medical and they told me to send him right over and he came back with abx.
I ignored my bite with a ring around it and hoped that if I were going to get sick from a spider bite that it would wait until the weekend.
I had too much going on at work.
Darn forgot the other thing.
Just know that many of us are suffering now and have been given different dx.

Found this web site on heavy metals. I know there is probably a better one but I didn't want to do more searching.
When the lady at the bank did the free foot reflexogy on me, she said I needed to get the gunk out of my liver and kidney's.
So this ion spa came just in time.

The black color that comes out near the heals I was told is heavy metals. The yeast as I recall is like foam on the floating around the top.
I did one foot bath so far with a practitioner who seemed to know what she was doing and she told me while I was doing it what all the colors were.
Kam talk to your LLMD about maybe doing a Zeolite product to try and pull out some of the heavy metals when the time is right.
Also if you take minerals it is good to take them before or during a foot bath. The practitioner who gave me my foot bath had me drink electrolytes during my bath. They were a bit hard on my spleen. Next time I think I will try taking something else to supply the minerals.

Thanks Molly,
Good to have your feedback and info.
I am taking zeolite.
3rd session:
MOre finer particles. No orange looking water this time.
Used warm tap water instead distilled water.
Could not see feet again due to the charcoal brown color of water and finer particles.
I guess in time I will be able to tell if it is coming from the heel or not.

Scott F. a poster on this forum did mention that the water will turn color even if you do not put your feet in but I am sure it probably does not turn as dark as your last photo without feet.
He mentioned he uses a detox foot bath often at home as well.

I was recommended to use mine only three times a week, as it does pull out some minerals. I also take minerals to replace them.
Depending on the product some will make colors with or without feet.
I have found it works well for detox.

Going to check the chart now
I used distilled water this time.

According to the chart it is liver, tobacco, cellular and joints.
The joints makes sense as I over did it yesterday and this am.
I was hurting and have stayed down most of today.
Yesterday, I had I think one of the best days so far. I need to check my last good day and compare.
The last good day was on the 4th. I was able to do 5 min of dishes and two loads of laundry.
yesterday, I was able to walk 15 min in the am, get groceries, give Rosie a bath, do 5 min of dishes and 2 loads of laundry (which still needs to be put away as well as last weeks laundry)
I don't recall being able to do so many things in one day before since coming down with this.
I am looking forward to being able to do my own household chores routinely after needing help the past 7 years.

I HAVE THE INFLAMED BRAIN THING GOING ON TODAY. HOPING IT WILL HELP.
PRETTY MUCH HAVE BEEN LYING AROUND WITH THE CURTAINS DRAWN.
TRIED THE EXCEDRIN AND THAT DID NOT HELP THIS AM. THE PAST FEW TIMES IT HAS NOT HELPED.
TRIED THE PARSLEY DETOX. GOING TO HAVE SOME MORE OF IT.
HOPING IT WILL LET UP SOON. NOT AS BAD IN THE PAST. AT LEAST I COULD MOVE AROUND ENOUGH TO SET UP THE FOOT SPA WITHOUT THROWING UP.

BUT OVERALL IT WAS MUCH LESS THAN IN THE PAST.

Sept 1, 2008 Detox treatment #7 & #8
Again, I could not see my feet due to the yucky stuff floating on top of the water. Again, the heel area seemed to be the darkest orange. As I dumped the water out I saw charcoal gray and orange particles. Water part was clear. Some of the flem like stuff floating in water again too.
I recalled when I first got the spa how I was in such a brain fog that I could not function well enough to do the treatments.
I have not had a problem after starting the detox treatments. It is very easy now and I look forward to it.
No help with household chores this week. So, I am hoping I will be able to do things myself. I did get the dishes in the dishwasher last night.
It would be great if I could do my own household chores again. I only have a person coming from the county for a hour each week. But, it is enough to keep me from going under.
I also am able to do my own grocery shopping now if I go in the senior van and my power chair.
I also have been able to do my own laundry recently with the exception of not being able to put it away. Hoping to be able to catch up with about 3 weeks worth of laundry this week as far as putting things away.
And I have started being able to walk again in the forest. it is about a 15 min drive to the trial head. I walk 15 min and then drive home. I am exhausted but happy.
I have not figured out how often I can do this yet routinely. I am hoping to be able to do it every other day.
Mentioning these things so I will have an idea of what I was able to do when I started with the detox treatments and where I will be in the future.
it is not an overnight change, but a slow progress.
I have read that some people were tested on how well they were able to detox. I have not had this test. But, from the looks of the water in the bin, I am detoxing well!!
I also want to add that I purchased a powder form of electro lights at the health food store.
I would not recommend it. Use it for the first time today and it is yucky. I believe it was made by NOW.
I have another product coming that is rated higher than what I have now. So, hoping it will taste better.

Angie..
Twitching stopped.
I had a good day yesterday. I was able to do a few things until noon. Usually, my brain and body shut down at 10 am.
But, I also had stayed down the day before and had slept through the night for the first time in a long time.
Also able to contact library to see if I can keep Healing Lyme longer. Usually can't be on the phone.
And had two conversations later that evening on the phone. One was short as I had just got back from my 15 min walk in the woods and was exhausted.
the other was much longer...20 min est and I did most of the listening on that one. New to me to be able to listen and process what is being said.
Got off the phone, thinking ...wow...I think I just had a normal conversation and might have been a bit of help.
Don't mean to yammer so much. Brain is not good at coming to a conclusion in my head.
So, need to just start typing away at the keyboad to sort things out.
Also able to remind housekeeper/caregiver to check bag in vacuum. It did need replacing.
Most of the time when she comes I am too out of it to work with her. This time I was able to do a bit too.
She is just here once a week for an hour. She got bedding changed and vacuumed and helped fold clean sheets.
I also was able to take out trash yesterday...emptied all 4 trash cans and took two bags out.
Very unusual day. Usually can not do that much in one day or one week for that matter.
I was able to write a cover letter for two doctor's and include the info on the Lyme Conf in CA. I have been wanting to do that for quite some time.
I was able to get the bedding out for the housekeeper/caregiver so she could put new sheets on the bed.
I was able to fold and put away a bit more laundry and can now get to the dresser and see the floor.
I am down to a couple of laundry baskets of clean laundry that needs to be put away. it was a mountain.
Able to take Rosie to the dog park but it was too noisy there so it ws a short trip...the people who talk non stop where there.
Even though I was sitting off to myself it still was too much to listen to the non stop talking.
Brain is functioning better though I am recalling where I put things quicker now.
Would like to be able to recall the names of some of the people I see routinely here at the apartment.
Been here a year and still can't recall names yet.
Able to put a few of the dishes away that were in dishwasher.
Able to move things in the front room so houskeeper/caregiver could vacuum.
I had the shortness of breath and exhaustion. had to lay down and rest after getting clean bedding out and picking up in front room.

I think so along with other things.
Able to do two loads of laundry today, walk 15 min in woods, put rest of dishes away in the dishwasher and put dirty dishes in and wash a crock pot and skillet, and take a stand up shower this am.
Most likely will not be able to do anything tomorrow, but that is OK.
Very unusual for me to do so much in one day.

I had an unusual day yesterday. Rested today with the exception of going to the Eagles nest and walking about 20 min in forest.
Able to do household chores in bits and resting yesterday. Dishes, laundry, pick up prescription, get dog groomed.

Thanks for bringing this up. I wondered where it was??
I was going through a good cycle and felt I was on the right track.
I am still doing better than in the past.
But, I think I am going through herxing a bit right now..increase in symptoms.
My car broke down and I don't have the funds to fix it.
I don't know if that is why my whole body is in more pain now or not. Most likely a herx.
But, the car did give me a relief from lyme symptoms and helped me go for walks in the forest.
It seems being out in the power chair is harder on the body than having the car move me.
On the other hand, when I am herxing the knees really get to me even when I am laying down.
Looking forward to tonight's food detox spa.
The stuff floating on the top that is so dark I can't see my feet seems to be about the same the past two weeks.
I tried to read some more about how the foot detox works. But, the print was too small for me and my brain was not working well enough to process what I was reading.
I am going to go back and see if I can copy and paste and enlarge the print when my brain is working better.
I was going to post it on this thread but the brain was not working well enough to find the thread.
I still have not had that terrible head stuff I use to get. Which is a very good thing.
Able to empty out dishwasher this afternoon, cook a couple of hamburgers and put dirty dishes in dishwasher.
I would do a little, rest and then do some more.
And taking less excedrin than I use to. It is rare I take a couple of excedrin now where as I took them daily for years.
I am kind of yammering right now. I hope this makes sense.

I also was thinking since no one does ionic foot spas in this area, that perhaps it is something I might be able to do.
But, I need to know more about what I am doing.
And I am not sure how my health will handle it.
I also would like to see what the water looks like when others use it.
And I was wondering how you disinfect the tub afterwards.

I had the head pressure thing going on this am.
Had the idea of doing a foot detox to see if it will help.
it seems to have helped the head pressure thing is not gone but it has lightened up.
Water was again black, charcoal color.
Wondering about the rust on the plates and the rust like water marks on the container.

Tried an experiment this am. SEt up ion foot spa and ran it but did not put my feet in.
The water stayed clear. No change.
Amazing. All that gunk if coming out of my feet.
Yesterday's treatment was charcoal again and water was so yucky I could not see my feet.

The chiropractor office that I first tried the ionic footbaths used trash bags over the foot tub.
They soaked the ray in something, but I don't know what.
Glad to hear that you are feeling better. Are you taking minerals?
My chiro and the directions for footbath both recommend taking some kind of minerals because the footbath draws them out.

I filled the tub up the other day and did not put my feet in it.
I wanted to see what happens.
The water stayed clear. Amazing.

Thanks for asking Angie.
I was just thinking it has been awhile since I Had one of those head stuff things that take the wind right out of my sails.
I had to wait them out and not making any decisions during that time as my mind would go towards thinking of ways to throw in the towel.
Don't even want to bring up the head stuff as I have noticed in the past when I think they are finally gone it shows up.
Bottom line is I am wondering if there is a connection to the foot detox and the head stuff??
It is the only thing that is different in my protocol.
Could be the spirochete load is getting low enough too.
