As I have watched Gustav developing I have become increasingly concerned about those who live in the path.
I would like to ask all to pray for those people, including our own Geneal, who just got back into a real house just a few short months ago.
I spoke to my brother this afternoon and he and his family are leaving tomorrow for Birmingham. This time they are packing for the worst case scenario.
I can't imagine what it is like for those who lost property, jobs or loved ones to Katrina, just three years ago.
I pray that this time the storm will not cause as much damage as Katrina did. I also pray that those who want to evacuate are able to do so.
It seems that the city of New Orleans is much more on top of the situation this time. I just hope that is enough to adequately provide for all those who need help in leaving.

Thank you so much for asking for prayers for all of us possibly facing yet another storm.
My family and I are hunkered down.
Have my 7 dogs along with 3 of my mothers.
I had to send my mother further north (Memphis) due to her other 5 dogs.
I pray for all the lives that will be touched by this catastrophe.
I may not be on line for a while. I am sure we will lose electricity tomorrow night.
We have a safe place, tons of food, and prayers of Angels like you all over us.
I would humbly ask for prayers that my mother doesn't sustain total loss.
I had to drag her kicking and screaming from South of New Orleans.
She had to leave. She can't swim. She is in her 60's.
I couldn't get to her if I wanted to.
She is in shock and robotic with responses. Devestated to have to go through this again.
I add my prayers to all of yours and ask that lives be spared.
Lymetoo has my phone number. I will probably lose cell phone abilities too.
I will be in touch with all of you as soon as I am able.

My family may be affected, but at this point, it's looking "good" for them in Texas.

My prayers are for the safety of everyone along the Gulf coast ... let's hope this hurricane, Gustav, does no harm and does not seriously damage property.

i could not agree with you more.
geneal, you were the 1st one i thought of also while watching on tv all the hurricane news, etc.
best wishes that NO LIVES will be lost, and you/others will be SAFE with limited damage.

glad you got your mom talked into going north.

You did the right thing for your mother -- they just released a study that found that 50 percent of those who died in Hurricane Katrina were 75 or older, so those who are even slightly up in age, disabled, unable to swim, etc., are at particular risk.
My prayers go out to you and to all who might be in danger.

Adding my prayers for ALL those who may be in the path of this storm.
I'm praying that it will turn around, go back where it came from and fizzle out.
I realize that's not likely to happen, but maybe it can at least lose it's strength.

...that's where Lymtoo said "beach4so" and her family live. Beach4so has 3 children; Dominic is her oldest Lymie child.

I'm pretty sure Geneal is very near her home in a very safe building. She should be OK...that's where they stayed last time.
The damage to her old home was from a tree that collapsed on the house.
Continue the prayers for everyone down there!

That is what caused much of the damage in their area during Katrina. My brother lost a lot of trees in his back yard, but they were far from his house. He is now quite experienced with chainsaws!
He lost a few in the front yard, including the one that landed on his car that he had moved to higher ground on his neighbor's driveway.
He also had another in the front yard that they found leaning on their roof. It caused some damage, but compared to what others in the area had received it was minor.
The damage in their part of the Parish was very random in Katrina. After seeing how badly other homes were damaged or ruined they felt very fortunate.
From what I have seen on TV their area was not hit as badly as with Katrina. I hope and pray that it remains that way.

Pines are what my brother lost in Katrina.
Here are links to damage in an area just south of where my brother lives. Geneal lives a bit further north and to the west.
Another good link, shows the water flowing over the levees among other things.

Tracy, those levees are NOT near where Geneal is. That is one thing they don't have to deal with, thank goodness.

We're getting tons of rain and will for the next few days, compliments of Gustav!! ( I'm in Southern Missouri. )
We were under a tornado warning about an hour ago. I'm not too worried though!!

There is still work to be done in new orleans. Check out the pictures, it was pretty close. At least its great for Geneal and the rest of New Orleans thankfully.

Such a stressful time...I'm trying to work, but having a difficult time concentrating.
My Mother evacuated on Saturday with friends. She is in Jeff Parish which had a late mandatory issued. She had to be drug out for Katrina.
My Sister decided to stay. She is on the Westbank, and I am still waiting to hear from her.
I'm so grateful it wasn't as bad as some predicted.

There are 300 miles of levees in the New Orleans area. That's a lot of levees to shore up!
