My hubby just started a new business and we are having to get our own insurance coverage. Should I confess to having lyme disease? If I don't confess and they see that I have it then they could refuse to cover me at all, right?

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I have only been in treatment for two months, with no changes. I don't necessarily want to decieve my insurance carrier but...

Questions:

1) Do you have a CDC positive test? If not, according to most doctors you would not have lyme, then.

2) are you being treated by a LLMD?

Even with a CDC positive test, the medical profession says lyme is no big deal. This might be one place where that stance is helpful - and short term treatment is all the medical profession will do anyway.

However, if you actually have a CDC positive test, I don't know. They likely will not ask about lyme.

Still, you will likely be scrutenized (sp?) if bills mount from the get-go. Will the insurance company have access to your medical files?

What is there stance on pre-existing conditions? That is important.

I think you need some professional, confidential, advice. I always like to be sure everything is rock solid. Less stress.

It's hard to admit to something that, according to most of the medical establishment, doesn't exist.

Even most of the insurance companies don't cover long term treatment of lyme for the same reason.

Take it from someone in the insurance field.....

I got rated higher for life insurance because of Lyme, but the same company, I'm more than sure, would put a cap on health coverage for the same condition.

So damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

Thanks you for the replies.

I am CDC positive - found through labcorp or all places. I am also being treated by a LLMD but pay out of pocket for visits.

Usually I am very upfront about things - but I just have this fear of "telling all" to the insurance company. As we all know, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. Don't get me started on that today - I think I am dealing with a severe case of lyme rage this week.

Thank you once again.

My husband has a clinical diagnosis.

Went from company coverage with BC/BS to private.

They denied him private insurance due to "Lymes disease".

Sheesh. At least get the diagnosis correct.

Trust me, any insurance agency will find out.

Sorry.

Hugs,

Geneal

my hubby has his own agency, the only coverage we could get was blue cross because they are not allowed to take into consideration pre existing conditions... so they had to take us!

each state has their own company that by law cannot turn you away- just so happens in Michigan it is Blue Cross...

any new company you go with with pull your medical history - they'll see every rx you've ever filled... and they can go back pretty far

look into an "HSA", health savings account - you set up a bank account just for medical expenses...

anything you you for lyme will come out of it and its tax freeand earns interest, etc...

hope this helps...good luck!!!

You might get more replies if you edit your headline to include something like "help w/ getting new insurance policy - re: lyme dx"

It might capture the eyes of those who have had similar experiences.

When I first saw the headline I thought it was about dating or a job.
