Is this a general question? If so, it just depends on too many variables and where a patient is in their recovery process.

Do you currently have insurance?

Are you to be getting a new plan soon?

yes currently do have insurance, a group plan,
but paying way too much,
and thinking of getting into a lower costing plan or a different company as a whole...

I've been able to, but then again--I've not been on the pricey stuff, like rocephin and mepron.

I think so, especially if you or your spouse is employed by a large corporation. If it's a large plan it shouldn't make any difference if you have Lyme Disease or any other illness. IV meds is usually the thing that most insurance companies are not willing to pay for very long when it comes to LD.

You might want to check on their policy about pre-existing conditions.

Good way to look at it. After all, lyme is easy to cure.

Here are two good sources for you regarding health insurance in PA.

http://www.ins.state.pa.us/ins/lib/ins/consumer/brochures/2003_health.pdf

http://philadelphia.backpage.com/FinancialServices/health_insurance_for_someone_with_pre_existing_conditions/classifieds/ViewAd?oid=1038968

A pre-existing condition is any injury or sickness for which diagnosis has been made, treatment has been recommended, treatment has been rendered, or expenses have been incurred within a set amount of months prior to the effective date of coverage. Under PA law, the exclusion period for pre-existing conditions diagnosed or treated within the past 6 months is 12 months under a group plan. Under private plans, you may be denied coverage or charged a higher premium.

It's important for you to find out if Lyme Disease is included in the insurer's list of pre-existing conditions. California has a comprehensive list of conditions, and Lyme Disease is included.
