I am curious as to how many of you are taking pain medication with no results. I know it is hard to believe but I saw it with my own two eyes, patients who were in recovery with me that could hardly walk and are now able to play with their kids run errands etc all due to the fact that they were on the wrong kind of medication.

i'm not sure if this counts or not but BACLOFEN, muscle relaxers to help the pain; been on them 10 years.

My daughter had to give up vicodin and percocet because it was starting to rebound. She is on Ultracet, and it's not adequate.
Baclofen? I'll look into that.

Because the pain from lyme disease (and "fibromyalgia") is nerve pain, alot of medications do not touch it.
Before I discovered I had lyme and I was having extreme neck and head pain, I was taking 2400 mg of ibuprofen daily with NO RELIEF at all.
That is why meds like Lyrica do provide some relief...because it helps nerve pain.

After taking it for so many years are you getting the same relief you did in the beginning?
If I may ask, how many mg. give you relief?
Can you use it alongside a pain med or not?
My spinal arthritis has gotten worse since my lyme dx and from what I have read tonight about baclofen, it is very beneficial for the spine.

I don't think pain medication is the way to go.
It either gets you hooked, or after an amount of time you need something stronger.
I, myself never took these kind of drugs and yet I don't know how hard it must be for those who need it, so I can't say.
If you can afford accupunture, cognitive behavioral therapy, but I was wondering why antibiotics hasn't hastened the pain yet.
There are antidepressants that can help with pain and I know they have helped some. I would not get into pain killers, because eventually, they'll kill you.

R: it's hard to tell, but i missed 1 day of pills..take 3 daily, and i could tell it!!

You asked for Thoughts on pain medication causing more pain.
A lot has to do with the liver. Many of the pain meds are hard on the liver. Anything hard on the liver will increase our pain if the liver can't filter out all the stuff it needs to.
And, with many here, a lot of trial and error has to happen before they can find what works.
Magnesium and Fish oil are the two best pain relievers in my kit.

Pain meds can cause constipation and dehydration. Dehydration in turn can cause pain.
Keebler is also correct about the fact that pain meds are hard on the liver.

I am having terrible leg twitching and pain.
Is this a neuro thing with lyme?
I'm not seeing an LLMD, but am going to discuss this with my reg. Dr.
I am currently on doxy, 100mg. 3x a day.
I've upped my magnesium and calcium with no effect. These muscle twitches are crazy.
Tried ice, muscle relaxers. I'm afraid my legs are going to be a problem. Very scared.

During the acute phase of my illness, NSAIDs like Advil wouldn't do anything for my headache These drugs, btw, are to be avoided while on fluroquinolones, such as Levaquin, as the combination increases the chance of brain damage developing.

I tested med to see what I could pass, and had several on hand to rotate, so as not to develop tolerance to any one. I still use something as needed.
It wasn't until I found out I had Lyme and went on clindamycin abx that the fibromyalgia pain went to zero in a week's time.

With all dieases,different people have different reactions,and outcomes when it comes too damage caused by them.
I think the same goes for pain meds and meds in general. I don't think there is a right or wrong one. It depends on what it does to You,and if it works.
Lyme for me has been very ditructive too my skeleton,and conective tissues. I have tried over the counter meds. I personally they are the worst for the body.
At this time I am on two high powered meds at low doses.And they work for Me.
We need too be careful sometimes when we talk about meds because of the same stigma that comes with lyme.(oh You take that). can come with pain meds.
If it is taken the way it is prescribed and not abused,they serve the purpose. And they become an asset.
Everyone is different and all meds affect people differently. Be as well as you can be today appleseed
