i just called my brother who lives near hartford connecticut and he told me last week one knee swelled up and he couldnt walk and today the other knee and foot swelled up.
he went to an orthopedist who told him to go to a regular doctor because its more of a gouty swelling.
when he told me that i freaked out because that was one of my first symptoms- my toe swelled up and i was misdiagnosed with gout.
what should i do? first i told him to run and get tested for lyme but i dont know if thats the right advise. going to a regular duck may be a wrong first step.
or should i get him an appointment with my llmd? he is not convinced this is lyme but im suspicious.
please let me know what i should advice him to do. my brain is fried today since i just finished a half day of neuropsych testing!!

I don't know--I don't trust regular ducks with Lyme testing any more than I trust a car salesman with heart surgery,
But maybe that would be a first step for him.
At the very least, maybe they'd put him on some abx.
I would then try to convince him to see your LLMD; it certainly wouldn't hurt.

I would definitely try to get him to your LLMD. If the duck orders a test, it will be the ELISA, which is not reliable.
Then, your brother may never believe he has lyme!!

i just called him again and he first wants to go to a regular duck.
im so upset and im trying to let him know how urgent this is. i dont need another person in the family sick with chronic lyme!!
after everything i have been through when i hear something like this i feel like it is so urgent to get treatment right away.
he is so laid back about it i want to scream!! thanks starfall for the advice. i truly cannot think today.

....If he gets the test for gout and his uric acid isn't elevated it'll rule that out...try to get him tested for gout first by the duck, leave lyme for later...I was misdxd that way also.

I would think any duck in CT in the spring would test him for Lyme with such obvious symptoms, and they usually do the Western Blot too.
