Hey guys, this seems to good to be true, I applied for ssdi back in September. I never heard anything back and then today i went online to look at my ever depleting balance on my bank statement.

Well there was a $1,700 deposit and it said dep from the treasury of soc sec. Did I get it? Did any of you get it and not get a letter first? I'm scared to touch it until I know! What else could this be?

I want to be excited, but could this be a istake or something else???? God, I don't think I can wait til Monday to find out!

Congratulations

Be prepared that after this surprise wears off, your mood may go sad a bit as none of us really wanted to be in this position. But, you will have some sort of resources now to help you get better. Social Security "temporary retirement" is what I say instead of the "D" word.

Yes, I also found out by the lump sum of past payments showing up in my bank account. A letter came later.

Can someone help me figure out the first steps i need to take in applying for SS? I do not want to face that i might have to do this but i am thinking that i might have to soon.

Does anyone know how you can find out what the monthly amount that you would receive if you get it?

Thanks any info is appreciated

I was sick for many many years. Then got diagnosed with Lyme, after that it took another three years (working the whole time) to apply. It's not an easy step and for me it was like the lyme won.

But when I started fainting and collapsing at work, I didn't have a choice but to apply. I was expecting quite the long drawn out battle, so that is why I am so happy. I'm just afraid I am going to call tomorrow and it will all be a mistake.

Angrob, I just did it on the computer. Just google social security and it will come up. There is a longggg form to fill out. It took me 8 hours. You don't have to do it all at once.

Then I called the office in my county and they made an appointment to be done over the phone. Then they sent me more forms to be filled out at home, so make sure you either print what you wrote on the online forms to make it easier. I never had to go anywhere, it was all done on the computer or over the phone.

After this I just kept them updated on all Dr appts and any changes. I hope this helps, feel free to pm me.

Lisa,

Yeah, I used to faint several times a day. That part can get better.

It's not a mistake. They would not have made that deposit. I'll bet if you count the number of months from when you had to quit work, minus any waiting period, and figure your monthly SSD payment, that it will equal the amount deposited.

good luck with your wellness plan.

Keebler, that's what is confusing me, its not a big amount, well its $1,700. A big amount for me, but not 7 months of back waiting? And in the letter they sent me when I first applied, it told me how much I would get a month and it was less, so I am really confused about this. I guess I just have to wait until tomorrow and call and I will know, I'm just impatient.

What has helped your fainting? I have had this for 18 years. I have gone through periods, of being a little better, but I'm the worse I've ever been now. I wish I could try IV abx, but for some reason my LLMD keeps putting it off. And honestly I don't know if my body could handle it since I have such a hard time on orals.

LisaS,
I tried to send a PM to you but it says that you mailbox it full.
Maybe there is just something wrong with it or maybe i am doing something wrong. Who knows.

I will try again later.
Thanks
Ang

PM Angrob this but posting for others.

A Social Security specialist Attorney warned our support group that those applying online have harder chance of getting it. Why?

If you can actually understand & fill out the form on the computer than "why can't you do data processing".

Best bet was/is to go to local Social Security office & ask them to help you do it.

Just giving you a suggestion.

After you're done filling out the online forms, you do have a chance to go back and correct it, before you send the whole thing over.

Plus for me it was easier taking my time on the computer over a couple days, since I am pretty much bedbound. So I'm sure they understand why people can't come to the office, some of us can't get up.

But definately have all the ready on all your dr appts, and their addresses. That will save tons of time.

dmc, if any of them saw my typing with my letter reversals and spelling, they would never think I could do data entry, lol. But I get what you're saying.

yes, they need to see the poor typing, misspelled words, etc....forget spell check!! give up your A personality when doing SSDI work.

CONGRATS LISA; so happy for you [Smile] [group hug] [kiss]

Lisa,

Sorry to be nosey, but I just applied for SS Disability. I cried in the office because I felt like I was a bum. It was a bad time to have to admit that I can't do anything...

Will you please tell me what you used as a reason you can't work?

Thanks,
Shalome
