Hi, Can anyone recommend a Hotel, motel to stay at , not far from Dr. J, office in Conn.
We will be seeing Dr. J for my daughter, in may and feel it's best to arrive the afternoon before and stay over.
We have an early morning appt. Any help is much appreciated.

this wonderful member posted this, and i kept it in my file...so i'll share this wonderful $$ tip!
from hopingandpraying 5-07:
The Ronald McDonald House is two bl ocks walking distance to doc J's office. You can not just call and make a reservation.
Let his office know when you plan on going, as paperwork needs to be filled out. We stayed there last year, as our appointment was on a Monday morning.
I think the donation is $15 and you may have some of the food from the community kitchen (or make your own).
You are required to vacuum your room and change the bedding linen before you leave. Hope this helps. **********************************************************

You could try sending a PM to "Al". He lives one half hour from Dr. J's office. Maybe he could help you.

Hi Jane,
The courtyard in New Haven is usually 'reasonably' priced (but hotels there are not generally cheap) - there is plenty nearby (bookstore, restaurants) that you can walk to from the hotel...it is a 'seedier' part of town but still safe and a good place to stay.
The courtyard in Orange, CT is about 10 minutes from New Haven and generally much cheaper - not much around (there is an outback steakhouse next door) - I have stayed there many times and I believe it to be a safe area
If you like a bit more 'luxury' in hotels, you can stay at the Omni Hotel which is beautiful, but usually about $275/night. You can walk to all of the restaurants on chapel street and it is about a 5-10 minute walk to Dr's office
PM me if I can be of any more help (I live in Mass as well but spend a lot of time in New Haven for work)

You can get rates at the Omni in New Haven for much lower than $275. During the holidays, friends of ours stayed there for $89. Also, the Courtyard Marriott in Orange, right behind the Outback, is a safe bet as well, but a little farther away from New Haven.

We stay at Premier Suites. They have a full kitchen. I just looked and they are $144.

I've heard good things about the Ronald McDonald house....
Have an appt for my son with Dr. J in May too, we live about 3.5 hours away... So, lots of driving that day, but will be worth it.

We use the Ronald McDonald House.
The information bettyg posted is correct, $15 donation per night and it needs to be planned in advance.
The kitchen is large and 2 families can cook at the same time. The community supplies are there but we always bring our own.
Occasionally outside organizations (girl scouts, schools, etc.) will actually bring enough food and make a meal to feed all the guests, although you shouldn't count on that.
Occasionaly outside organisations (girl scouts, etc.) will actually bring enough food to feed all the guests. Again you shouldn't count on that.
