I'm so angry and frustrated right now. A couple of months back I approached the school district about raising awareness for LYme in MAy.

the adminstration agreed to send out the "bookmarks" from LDA. I provided them with 3000. They said they would send them out with a letter in may describing the risks of TBD.

Well, May is almost over and no letter. I get an email today saying that they decided not to send them home given the swine flu pandemic. They said maybe in June or next May!!!!!!!

What morons!!! don't they know more people will get lyme than the stupid swine flu? ONly 58 people in NJ have confirmed postivie flu test in 6 weeks. Meanwhile 80 people a day get LYme.

I wrote back, nicely urging them to send them in June.

What a slap in the face. Its amazing how its even impossible to give away free flyers and tell people something that could save them pain and suffering and money.

You are a dear for trying so hard. Thank you for that.

I've run into problems with the school/health department nurses in schools not wanting the info to go out because of health department IDIOTS.

And/or the Board of Education will sometimes balk at the idea for the same reason.

Keep that in mind as you "stew" and know you made the effort, which was GRAND....

And it is a HARD thing to do to educate.

People often think the Lyme movement is moving too slowly.

It sure isn't for lack of trying.

And remember... don't give up! Keep looking for open doors.

Knowing you, you won't give up.

PS... If it were me I'd march my butt in there, nicely, and ask for the tick bookmarks back.

I'd tell them I am a volunteer and need them for those who WANT an education... and when they are ready to deal, I'd tell them to get back to me.

PS...

For as many years as I can remember... the Maryland Health Department has considered rabies more of a priority than Lyme.

Of course the Lyme decisions in Maryland are made by veterinarians.

They normally work with animals and animal control ... but for some reason they are also in charge of Lyme in humans.

UGGGGGGG!!!

Thanks TC. I have a hard time taking no for an answer and have not plans of letting up on them until the very last day of school. then I'll work on them for next year.

I've already bought the Lyme curriculum and am going to try to have them add it to their health curriculum. I'm sure that will take a couple of years....

I guess us lymeies have to actually act like lyme in order to be heard.....persistent, annoying, hard to get rid of, sneaky, opportunistic. I guess that's the trick, to beat the bug, you've got to act like the bug!

so just like my bugs, I'm not giving up yet!

LOL!! You go!!!! Like TC said, kudos to you for trying!!! That's wonderful!

It is such a shame that Lyme isn't given any real merit. Goodness if anyone could potentially get botulism from taking a walk, there would be tons of concern, but since Lyme doesn't really do anything and is soooooo easy to cure, then it's just not a priority (rolls eyes).

You are a true Lyme warrior...keep up the good work!

d fan,

way to go for trying your best to get this done! those dummies!!

tincup beat me to it, but i'd go to the school and get them ALL BACK TOO.

i'd also have recruits with me and when school ends on a certain day, have someone posted at every exit and just hand them to them!
