here's my situation. when i worked i had beautiful clothes. my sister shopped for me. i'm talking vanderbilt, act III, kasper, london, clairbourne....
i have beautiful silk suits, two piece pantsuits, blouses, etc., the whole mid management look. all colors, some black, no orange or brown, reds, blues, greens, you name it.
several of the suits were more than 200 dollars and some 300.
these are sizes 8-10 and since i can't get into them anymore and probably never will again, i have to clean out my drawers and closet.
i absolutely HATE to give these to goodwill. i know i should but i just can't. besides my friends mother works there and she told me they take all the good stuff and put the rest out to sell.
there is a consignment shop down the street but they wanted a dollar or so each. DUH!!!
i would rather see someone who really needs them, or perhaps doesn't have money for clothing right now. i'm sure a teenager can wear the jeans and tops, heck, any age can because these are classic styles. no midrifs, torn jeans here.
i have several suits still in drycleaner bags.
has anyone got any suggestions?
i know it sounds crazy but if anyone can use them, i would gladly pay for the ups and ship them to you.
i assure you these clothes are in TOP condition, many still have the tags on them, never worn...HONEST!!!
i just hate to give them to goodwill....guess i'm not being very charitable huh?
but i would rather see somebody who has lyme and is maybe still working who needs them, than just give them away.
oh yes, i have some beautiful winter sweaters, couse they'll darker colors.
suggestions anybody??

Can you sell them at a consignment shop, and donate to LDA or Turn the Corner Foundation?

i'm not aware of any places around where i live.
the consigment shop told me a i would get a dollar or so per item. i'm not willing to let them go for that, sorry, but i would rather give them away. i know it doesn't make any sense, but it's like "are you crazy?"
i wish i had friends who were this size but at my age, 60, all of us are 14's and up.

There are places that give these suits to women entering the workforce for the first time.
I think that would be the best utilization of what you have.
You would be giving a woman who was perhaps abused and is now starting out on her own to have a nice suit for her first interview!
I KNOW Dallas/FTW has several of these places. You could also call the JR League to ask about one. They have their own charities surrounding clothing also.

These types of things sell very well on Ebay. We have gotten by a lot the last year by selling things on Ebay.

If none of the above ideas are right for you, I am a counselor and often work with people who are in financial straits. Although I haven't worked too much lately I am slowly starting again.
I would gladly take them and pass them on to people who can use them. I have plenty of room to store them.
But I still say sell them and make yourself some money!

My mom sometimes donates clothes to shelters for abused women. they need presentable clothes for jobs and job interviews and many have fled with just the clothes on their backs.

that's really kind of you to downsize and donate them to a WORTHY LYME PATIENT/CAUSE, ETC.
i know some of our folks have started working again.
i also was going to suggest, but someone else beat me to this, to a homeless/battered women's shelter!
in our city, we too have a program for DRESSED FOR SUCCESS for those going on job interviews & getting jobs. EVERYTHING IS FREE TO THEM!
do you know of anyone who has an ebay business close to you that you trust?
keep the money for yourself for treatments, etc. or help another lyme patient out during desparate times.
thanks for thinking of others; i agree; i would refuse to sell them for $1.00 when they could be used otherwise for those who could NEVER afford them!

Yes, very nice of you to do that.
Can you contact your area lyme support groups? Although some women may not be able to work, some can and even for those who can't it may be very nice to have some nice clothes as that is not something that is usually in the budget since lyme.
You might also try reaching out to the "CFS" and "FM" support groups if your area lyme group has no one that size. The, to the MS support group, etc. Beyond that, the small size might be good for cancer patients, too.
Or to a college near you - the career counselor may enjoy giving them to recent grads for their job hunt or first job.
When I got my first job I had no money for clothes and, on that job, a nice wardrobe would have set me apart and into a more professional category. As it was, I actually got fired (partly) because I only had two outfits and they were getting quite worn. I was told I looked unprofessional but there was nothing I could do on the pay I was making.
While I was also having brain fog issues way back so it was clear that, as hard as I tried, I was having trouble doing my jog. Still, the clothes reprimand was mortifying and It would be nice to prevent that from happening to someone else.
In some cities, there are some organizations that help with such an effort. You might all your Chamber of Commerce to see.

i went to the thift shop to sell and man, that woman was crazy!!! you pay 10 bucks to sell a batch, they get 70 percent. they must be on hangars or in dry cleaner bags. no more than 2 years old and top designer brands (course all mine are). if after 2 months, they don't sell the shopkeeper gets them....DUH....i don't think so...
and i looked at their prices!!! she was asking 30 dollars for stuff that i KNOW won't sell or something. and then when she told me she goes to goodwill or garage sales, i went WHOA!!!! she's getting clothes and then selling them...
bad experience....
but dang, i wanted another lymie to get them, or at least a daughter maybe...
well, i'll keep trying. if nothing else they go to women's shelter. i think there's one in hurst and that's not too far.
i've contacted the local lyme group but sadly, they don't seem to be responsive. that's ok tho.

Sounds like you can really help some ladies in need. This is a great opportunity for folks trying to get back into the workplace, boost confidence on the job, to make themselves available for promotion, etc...
Also homeless shelters, battered woman's centers, local church outreach programs, job training centers, and the Red Cross (think of all the people that lose all their possessions to fire and natural disasters every year),they are all worthy causes.
And best of all, enjoy the experience. What a blessing to be able to give to others!
