They are invading our home

Thanks,

i think if you put dish soap and vinegar in a dish, they will be attracted to the vinegar small and get stuck in the soap.

I had success before with what Merrygirl

suggested, except in addition, I put cling/saran

wrap over the dish, tightly, and poked holes in

it. The fruit flies go in and can't get out.

If it's a really bad infestation, in

addition, you could place a box fan in an open

kitchen window without the screen-- pointed OUT -

to suck them out.

I had these really bad.

Tried the vinegar thing.

Didn't work.

Took a ripe banana. Put it in a deep container on the counter.

I kept the lid close by.

Every once in a while I walk by and put the lid over the container.

Walk outside. Open the container.

They fly away.

Took a couple of days of this along with a few trips,

But it worked.

Hugs,

Geneal

....just an aside....some years ago somebody developed a way to breed sterile fruit flies and I think wiped out a whole strain of them.

So why hasn't anybody done that with ixodes or lone star ticks??

Thanks everyone for your responses.

I tried pouring vinegar into strait dish soap. I caught one.

I have many. Am I preparing the solution incorrectly?

I will try the banana in the container.

I just wish it would be more simple and not rely on me.

They are big fruitflies and look almost red.

My sister-in-law put out a small bowl of red wine. Haven't tried it, but she said it works. What a way for them to go!

I would warn family and houseguests who like their wine. That would be so gross.

Good Luck!

Hi, MADDOG TRAPPER HERE!!!

Get a big paper grocery bag.

Put pieces of the fruit or what ever they are after in the bag, leaving the top wide open.

Every now and then sneek up grab the top closing it quick.

While keeping it closed take them outside shut the door behind you and chase them out of the bag.

Then reset the trap and repeat above till you get them all put outside.

Usually they're after rotting fruit or veggies....do you have a bad potato, onion or fruit in the batch? Dump it if you do.

Remove the source, even if it's just fruit on the counter they're after. Put it in the fridge or in a closed paper bag.

Wait till it's dark outside.....open a door to the outside, turn a porch light on at that spot....turn all the lights off
in the house and the majority should head toward that light.

This works for reg. house flies and moths also, they love to come inside during certain times of the year but when
they try to get out it will always be toward the light.

Works for me everytime. [Smile]

When I have fruit flies I always put a little red wine in a tall glass and then take a piece of paper, roll it into a cone, and stick it in the glass. The flies will crawl down the cone into the wine and they can't get out. Kills 'em dead. Good luck! I hate the little buggers!
