I have chronic lyme and babesia that I am unable to treat due to stomach problems.

I tried IV Rocephrin and ended up in the hospital with blood sepsis.

Thus, I started seeing a homeopath who has been treating me herbally. (See slight improvement)

I found a tick on me three weeks ago and removed. Now I have swollen lymph nodes and a rash plus, achy joints.

The homeopath actually told me to go get antibiotics.

I saw an infectious disease specialist today who wrote me a script for amoxicillin since it is easier on the stomach than doxy.

I am terrified to take it as my stomach is always really bad and don't know what probiotic to take.

Does anyone know what is a really good probiotic?

Dear wendihk,
Amoxy is one of the few that is easier on my system. I have severe digestive issues as well. Doxy and all of that class of abx make me very ill. I take AccuFlora. It is at Wal-Greens. Some other good probiotics are FloraStor, VSL #3, and yogurt with live active cultures. If you have an overgrowth of yeast, it may be adding to your stomach trouble.

Sincerely,
Jin

I recommend Ultimate Flora Critical Care from Renew Life.

I order them online through the Vitamin Shoppe.

"VSL#3 Double Strength" is my recommendation for 2 reasons.

First, there are 900 billion bacteria per sachet.
Second, my insurance will cover all but $40, if I order the double strength.

It usually lasts about a month and a half.

VSL #3 is expensive, but supposedly good.

It also comes shipped with an ice pack, which is very important.

Also, I find brands at the health food store to be "good enough," and I see the same results with those actually, you just have to take more pills to get the same result. Buy the ones that are in a refrigerator, they are usually the better ones.

I have heard the recommendation that you should take them 2-3 hours after the antibiotic dosage, or 30 min before. A few hours after is supposed to be better though. Do NOT take them with the amoxicillin, it will kill the probiotics.

With your amoxicillin, I hope you are supposed to take it 3 times a day? It should be taken 8 hours apart, each dose. Be sure to get on a schedule where you're taking it exactly 8 hours apart each time....it works best that way.

I would start it ASAP, you don't want to mess around with early Lyme!!!!

Thanks for all of your help.

Hoosiers51-It's funny that you are saying not to take the probiotics at the same time as the amoxicillin.

My vet had told me that when my horse had Lyme and said not to give the doxy at the same time as the probiotic.

Since then I have gotten conflicting opinions on whether you can take it together.

In my opinion, it would be common sense not to take them together as they could cancel each other out.

However, the LLMD I had seen initially told me I oculd take them at the same time.

I think I am going to go with my gut and space them out a little.

Thanks for the affirmation.

Wendi

BTW-I have to get blood work done before I start the Amoxicillin.

The infectious specialist requested a total AB test/reflex, western blot, serum, and a C6 peptide Elisa.

She is not an actual LLMD but I feel knows the truth and believes me that I am chronically ill with it.

I do have bloodwork from last year from IGENIX showing positive for Lyme and positive on all three tests for babesia (in one blood sample).

Does anyone feel that I might come back as positive on this new bloodwork since I have a new infection now?

I know that she is just doing it to try and convince the insurance company so I can have IV again.

I'm still scared of the IV since my last fiasco.

AAAAHHHHHH!

www.theralac.com .. Don't delay in getting one ASAP!!!

Yes, you could very well come back positive since you already have new symptoms.

Why not try orals?

Lymetoo- I don't have anything against orals except that my stomach is really bad.

The chronic lyme affected my vagus nerve and I have gastroparesis(partially paralyzed stomach).

Also, I see to have developed a mean case of Irritable bowel syndrome.

Some days I cannot even look at food or I want to throw up. I am on anti-nausea pills just to be able to eat.

Last year I was down to 109 pounds at almost 5 foot 10 inches.

Now, with the help of the homeopath I am up to 120 pounds.

I am terrified that the orals will make me not able to eat and give me the poops.

i have been reading up on keifir, has anyone tried it? and if so did it work as good as the capsules.

i am thinking about getting the keifir grains & making it myself, i think it's kinda like yogurt, and has all the good bacteria in it.
