Hi Gang,I got this non lyme looking hot achy rash.
I had to go to the doc., like one of the last places i want to go.
Turn's out it is shingles and not the kind on the roof.

Dog, my mom had them for years..MOstly because she will not stop scratching the scabs..Dr finally said to get Eucerin. It seems to help.
I think he also said benadryl might help but don't use unless some dr agrees since my memory stinks.lmt

There are some good meds to help shingles if you get the meds early enough.
They also give steroids for it. Gotta be careful of that with Lyme. It is okay to have steroid treatment if you are also on antibiotics, in many cases.
What did the doc give you, Maddog?

For others...
Shingles is caused by a virus, it is the reappearance of Chicken Pox, Herpes Zoster, that has been dormant in your system.
Not everyone, but only some unfortunate ones, when the immune system is depressed, will have this virus wake up again as Shingles.
It can be extremely painful, and does need immediate medication, or it can progress further into something called postherpetic neuralgia, which is a persisting nerve pain beyond the clearing of the infection.
Also, it should be noted that Shingles IS contagious when the blisters are actively forming and full. So, the area should be covered if you are going to be in contact with anyone who has not ever had the Chicken Pox, as this could cause them to catch it from you.
And an adult with Chicken Pox is much more difficult to treat than a child.
I'm so sorry my friend... I had this last year, and I know how miserable it can be.

A shingles vaccine is now available for individuals 60 years and older.
For some reason it is not covered by Medicare.
Our local health department offers it for approximately $175.00 per shot.
Well worth it.

Hi gang,the doctor prescribed, prednisone, and valtrex, also gave me a script for cipro for my lyme.
I bought none of it as i am keeping my money for house payments.
I did however have aciclovir which is very good for the shingles here already,and am on it.
The aciclovir is working real good.It came from Mexico.
At least SS will be real happy I went to the doctor again,they don't know i didn't buy the meds..
