I have been searching for a LLMD in the Southwest Missouri area for my best friend. She has tested positive twice in the last two months for Lymes Disease. I did obtain names of LLMD's within a 4 hour drive of us through various websites. Is it normal for the wait time to see these doctors to be between 4-9 months? She has called 3 and that is the wait time she was given. She is in tears and feeling quite helpless.

Yes, unfortunately, the wait can be that long. When my sister called in May for her first appointment she was told there were over 100 people on the waiting list ahead of her.
The good news is, though, the longest wait is for the first appointment. After that, you are "in the system" and you can make follow-up appointments on a regular schedule.

davis,
check your profile above for my pm to you of a s. wisc. llmd who normally has 2-4 WEEKS only waiting time
think he may have recently taken a much needed vacation.
also, we live in MIDWEST with NOT MANY LLMDS !!
15-18 states have NO LLMDS !!

Thanks for your responses.
I have always known of Lymes Disease but never had a loved one go through the disease. What an eye opening experience.
Sadly enough she saw an infectious disease doctor here (who took over a month to get into) only to have him tell her (after she has had 2 positive tests) that it is too rare in this area and he doesn't feel she has it.
Kind of funny that since going through this with her I have heard of NUMEROUS cases in our area and our local paper is even running articles about the influx of reported cases. It's sad that more doctors aren't acknowleding this disease and working to help treat patients correclty.

After spending 2 years trying to get adequate treatment through conventional means, I called Dr. J. We waited 5 months for our appointment.

ledavis it is sad indeed. Glad they have a friend
like you. This is why these people here do not stop. The many who are sick and don't know it and do
not receive treatment. Or diagnosed with something besides what it is. I had to wait 2
months almost in a wheel chair. The best thing to do while waiting is research the disease.
They will get angry and then they will try to help change things. I do hope they were given some
doxy and diflucan while they wait. If you already have a positive test there is no need to wait.
