I guess today is my day to feel terrible at work.

I feel almost like I'm drowning- I can't seem to get enough air. And I'm going from cold to hot and back again in a matter of a minute or two.

I am so tired, I would be in danger of falling asleep, except I'm in enough pain to keep me awake.

I have 9 hours left, and I don't know how I'm going to do it...It take nearly all my energy just to breath.

Nicole,

hang in there....and don't panic yourself... for sure the stress always makes things worse...like all things with this disease it will pass.

work is the hardest part for sure of getting well.

Nicole,

I'm so sorry that you are so sick and at work on top of that.

I wish I could say something to help, but all I can say is I know you are really hurting right now and wish you were not.

I have felt somewhat like that, actually (totally embarrasingly) I cried about a week and a half ago in my cube because I felt kind of like you do now and I knew I had to keep working.

You are not alone, and I am sending you positive wishes.

I'm sorry that you're feeling overwhelmed right now.

I've often felt disbelief that I can still be up or even at work when I feel so awful, sounds similar to the "drowning" that you are experiencing.

Not knowing what sort of work you do and respecting your privacy not to state it, I'd say look for any accommodations or any chances for an extra break.

I get more symptomatic when I can't move, and I work at a desk. Taking walks when I can helps.

Turning off any extra lights helps me, too.

It may sound corny, but know you're not the only one in this difficult situation. Time will keep moving forward, and your work day will end.

We're rooting for you!

Nicole,

did you make it through your day?

I hope you are on your way to bed now.

Hi

Yes- I made it through my day. And then I went home and had a big nap...which didn't actually fix anything, but it didn't make it worse.

Lymaid- I've cried at work too! It is really embarrassing.

Unfortunately, there are no special accommodations possible. I had to pay for my own ergonomic appraisal even (I get horrible pain in my arms and wrists from typing)

I've just never had this air hunger before, and it really freaked me out. I was worried I'd have to go to the ER. Thank goodness I didn't.

Thanks for all the support and suggestions!

That's too bad that your company can't be a bit "friendlier". Hope you are feeling better today.

I am so sorry that you are feeling that way. I can't even imagine how awful you must feel.

I am just experiencing emotional problems at work dealing with the BEGINNING of LD and it is already very difficult.

I was diagnosed with LD 4 days ago.

I missed work the day after diagnosis, following dr.'s orders.

I came to work the next 2 days and on Friday left work 2 hours early b/c I was so sick, tired and could not think (I have a job where I have to be sharp or I will make big mistakes).

My boss was not at work, but I was told by the Office Manager that he was very upset with me missing work that week and would be mad that I missed 2 hours on Friday b/c he knew people with LD who worked with no problem.

Needless to say I was SO ANGRY, but also went to my car and cried my eyes out.

feel sick, tired, and am in pain.

It's like my whole office thinks that I am making this up simply b/c they've known "other people with LD who have been just fine."

What the heck?

HI abp,

I'm so sorry you're having so much trouble with your boss... That really sucks.

My boss has been fairly good with me missing work- but then again, I have been using my vacation time for doctor's appt.

It's always difficult when you get quoted about the "other people" who were fine...

Can you get your doctor to write a note explaining your situation and the severity of your illness?

Would that help?

Best wishes!
