Okay, can I use "Mom has Lyme brain" as an excuse for my son missing school on Friday?

He's in PM kindergarten, so he doesn't get the bus till 12:45pm.

Well, on Friday I noticed there were buses running up the street around 10:45am, but didn't think anything of it.

So we went about our morning, and I took him out at the normal time to get the bus.

Next thing a different bus, not his regular one, comes down the street but didn't slow down.

I started heading down the driveway, and the bus driver saw me and slammed on the brakes.

My son just got a new bus drive on Thursday, so I thought she just forget to stop for him.

So the bus backs up and she says, "Is he in PM kindergarten?"

I said, "Yes he is."

She said, "Didn't you know they had a half day today? PM kindergarten went from 11:05 to 12:00." (WHY they have the kids go for less than an hour is BEYOND me).

So I just never thought to look at the school calendar to see if they had any of these stupid half days coming up, so now my son missed another day of school (he was out sick for 2 days the previous week).

And now I dread sending in the excuse because there was a communication issue when I sent in his excuse on Monday (the new teacher screwed up and didn't send the excuse to the office), and the school sent me a letter threatening legal action if he had 2 more unlawful absenses (Compulsory Attendance Law).

So, can I put on his excuse that Mom is a Lyme brain? Do you think they'll excuse that?

I appreciate the situation but the perception of lyme among those who are still shielded has to be taken into consideration. We don't want them to think lyme patients are not capable, bright people.

I think anyone could have missed the bus, so to speak. Just saying that you had forgotten about the schedule change. That's enough for any parent to say. Really.

Don't beat yourself up for that and don't give them any more of an excuse to single you out. Everyone forgets sometimes.

At least it's a medical excuse and not a "Mom's a blond!!!" [Wink] [bonk]

I agree with Keebler.

I don't have Lyme but I can't remember how many times I forgot to bring my daughter's blanket wiht her to her school on Monday (Take home wash on Fri. and then bring it back on Mon.)

Just take the blame as a parent. What are they gonna do? Give you an F? [Wink]
